Being in GEP is a blessing but it brings you no favours. A few of us remind our DCs to refrain from sharing that they are in that program.

We are thankful that our DC looks forward to school because it is no longer boring. The program is no walk in the park.

It actually doesn’t matter what tweaks and turns DSA takes. Just don’t single out this small group at your convenience. Can’t we have more schools, e.g. NUSH, dedicated to academics? For DSA under non academic domains, why don’t we set a COP closer to the TScore?

It is sad that high achievers are made to feel as though they had unfair advantage. Yes, there are many who do not go for special prep classes and do not attend any tuition.

DHS offers WL. Congrats to those who received COs & WLs. Whatever the outcome, move on to PSLE.

Encourage your child to drop the teachers a Whatsapp or email to arrange for consultations. Ask him to provide a few time slots. Sometimes the teachers will ask if the students could meet in small groups.

      Hi Need_Help_Mommy,

What you have described is what is happening to my son. Mostly he will do his h/w, though half the time he is being distracted by throwing stationery, checking hand phone for \"h/w\" etc. I have to sit with him to do corrections. I find I have to do a lot of work to make him do his.

During the recent CTs, he hardly revised as after half an hour of coaching, he would start to nod and take a 2 hour nap. Not only that, we quarrel frequently about his h/w, bo chap attitude (frequently missing papers, deadlines etc) preferring to quickly finish his work and wait for corrections.

Though he managed to clear 4 out of 5 subjects over 70%, I've thought of withdrawing him from the program as it seems he is not interested and I wonder how long he and I can carry on.

Go and speak to the 'chers n hod...they will tell you most gep boys are like that.

I second Nebbermind. Do talk to the teachers during PTM. At this point, the written projects are tedious for kids who do not like to write. Project work is also a new thing for them. My DD shared that a year ago, she would be counting the number of words in her compo. Writing was a chore. Now she can easily type out 4 pages of written work without batting an eyelid. This is only after 2 terms in the program.

We are fine with the 70+ marks. My DD attends only HCL tuition. We have been briefed to adjust our expectations. There are a few who had perfect scores for Math.

We also noticed that what was tested in the CT had little bearings on what was covered in class. There are however, areas of overlapping work. We are still very upbeat and happy with the program.

We didn't prepare DD for CT this time round. Previous years she did some past years' papers.

      Hang in there!

Just wondering why the school T-Shirts so big? My DD is swimming in XXS. Read in the earlier pages how long the blouses were. They are long alright. :rotflmao:
