Not all here are parents...some are school kids. So level of experience and understanding are different... :stompfeet:

Thanks Ender and CMF.

Do I ask for testimonial from form teacher and CCA teacher now? Is it necessary? Does it help?
His CCA is nothing to boast about, though a leader in a club, so I should try DSA academic?
He has some distinctions in ICAS Sci, Maths but only sliver in Maths Olympiad, what's the chances?
I'm looking at ACSI, NUSH, DHS.
RI and HCI - low chance for him?
VERY VERY HIGH...your child CV seems more than the required...impressive. Potential scholar...Go for the best..RI?

Hi Coldastone

Once the child is accepted via DSA, the minimum requirement would be to meet the Express cut off aggregate. However if a child were to score low, she/he would probably face a tough time in the top school.
Thank you for the clarification..

Hi all and Happy New Year,

Got a query for DSA academic application. If one tries for Nanyang Girl’s School and was successful for the DSA 2016, is there a minimum score expected of the DD for PSLE? Meaning she must meet a minimum score for this year PSLE if not the efforts all wasted? And what is the score? Tks

P6 Gep students who failed to enter by DSA via academic, & who scored 24x, 25x far below official COP :
MOE prevent them from appealing, going forward from 2015 onwards

By doing so, has it pros and cons. PSLE is only a paper. Some students might not perform well on that day due to other factors but might has the ability to be stretched in a better school.

It will create more \"emphasis and stress\" on PSLE papers going forward. I find appeal case should be a bit more lax, allowing those that fall below 5 marks to have the chance to appeal to their dream school.

I know of quite a number of kids, not performing well in PSLE, but appealed to school and doing well in the environment.

There is nothing wrong with appeals..but 5 points below COP? Already 1-2 points below COP quite unsure..

I read the closing date appeal was 23 dec, 12pm

All Sch worked half day on 24 December till abt 12pm
Upon rec appeal forms , Sch leaders got to infm MOE etc by 3pm
On 23 December .
So to get appeal outcome on xmas eve fr Sch is indeed super efficient (?) , really
Dunno how Sch did it.
Usually appeal outcome by 31 December

Confirmed RI already sent out results. Not sure about HCI, RGS and NYGH.

So wats the outcome? entertain only those get 261? or 260 and 259 ok?

Hi, sorry if I am off-topic for the current moment but for the past few days I have been really restless. My DD is from a neighborhood pri sch and her t-score is 260. We put RGS as our 1st choice, MGS IP as 2nd, and NJC as 3rd. Since RGS and MGS COP were 258 and 256 respectively last year, we thought my DD will get into her dream school which is RGS. But on Tuesday, we were really shocked to know that DD was posted to NJC. But I realized that RGS COP this year was 260 and can't understand why DD couldn't get in. We appealed for RGS already and we are waiting for the outcome. What is the number of vacancies in RGS for appealing students? And is there any hope that the appeal will be successful? Merry Christmas and TIA!

Your girl couldn't get in because of the invisible decimal points behind the 260. The last girl on COP 260 has a higher ranking/decimal point score.

Don't think there's any set number of vacancies but your probably stand a high chance, assuming a place is available. However, if no one is giving up their place in RGS, then nothing much can be done apart from playing the waiting game.

All 3 schools chosen by Lionmom are top schools. Getting into NJC is good liao. Cant understand the so called \"shocked\" because her kid can't get into RGS! Cmon..other kids don't even smell such scores and they are moving on with life...
We are KS parents. Imagine this scenario:

In-laws asked “ Ah 3Boys arh, 晚报说南洋女中才是新加坡顶尖的,蝉联榜首,个个分数都是至少264的,ah girl can make it what, why you choose xxx sch? 😂

p/s: no worries, i understand your viewpoint

Because you want ah girl to be number ONE in xxx sch, and not number yyy out of zzz girls in NYGH 🙂 🆒

Haha. Good post.
I had a friend who's t-score is > 250 but chose a neighbourhood school with COP in the low 200s.

Not surprisingly that he's always number one and had the best opportunities given by the school. It did set him up nicely well into the future.
If everyone thinks this way is good. Then might as well don't care where ur kid go to primary school. Why the fuss of shifting homes or even doing volunteer work at desired schools? I think to each there is reason for things.

Nanyang Girls 264 / 262
RI 261 / 256
MGS 261 / 256
HCI 260 / 256
RGS 260 / 258
NJC 258 / 254
DHS 258 / 253
CHIJ St. Nic 258 / 253
ACS(I) 256 / 252
Cedar Girls 254 / 252
VS 254 / 249
TJC 253 / 249
River Valley High 253 / 249
Catholic High 253 / 249
SJI 253 / 248

But seriously at the end of the day, how do the schools determine their COPs? Who controls them?

schools do not determine their COPs.

COPs is the lowest aggregate score of all the students admitted to the school. And students are posted to schools by MOE basing on students' unrouned aggregate scores and their choices of schools.

Thanks...so u mean e.g. for RI, if 2 kids get 261, one may go in, and another may not? decimals count too huh?
