RE: 2014 Request for Advice on Selecting Secondary Schools
compvale:
Any parents visited both schools ? From your observation, which school has more friendly environment with happier girls ?Thank you Dreamgear & Concerned Parent 123.
We visited Cedar today & quite like the school. RGS open house was in May so no chance to find out more.
Hope some parents who have visited both schools can share more. Thank you.
Academic aside, just wanted to ensure my girl will stay happy. -

RE: Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]

Thank you!. Heard some IP schools have a O level class for students who need to make the switch. Does RGS have a O level class ?
Usually people are stressed not because of the huge workload (which isn't very huge). They are stressed because of their various other commitments: CCA, interest groups, whatever service projects etc they are doing. Coupled with academics, people find it hard to juggle their time and therefore they feel stressed. It's never really academics alone that makes them stressed i think.compvale:
Hi....how's the workload at RGS ? Is it very stressful ?
Do most of the children have tuition ? Understand it is difficult to find tuition centre for IP schools.
Some have tuition, some don't. It really boils down to individuals. -

Hi
Both are favourite girl schools. Besides distance, what are the other factors to consider if the choice is between RGS & Cedar ? -

RE: Secondary Schools OPEN HOUSE 2010
Hi compvale, thank you for the information. Did you attend its open house? If yes, care to share about your views? Thank you.
Cheers![/quote]

my view is it is a good school with committed teachers. It is pretty Chinese in its environment. The current principal Mr Ong is retiring after 5 yrs there and hopefully the new principal will continue the good work. Guess SHHK will be watching the school performance closely too.
If you are looking for a school in the North East, this is about the best you can find. -
RE: Secondary Schools OPEN HOUSE 2010
In case fellow parents are still not aware, the MOE has just announced that Nan Chiau will be upgraded to a SAP school in view of its good academic results.
So it is now a Band 1 School that is going SAP !
5 years ago, it was only a Band 9 school.
Taking in students with t-score in the the low 230s, the school has somehow managed to turn them into top scoring students !
Really speaks a lot about the commitment of its principal and staff ! Well Done !
It shows that with the right commitment and motivation, even neighbourhood schools can be among the best in Singapore.
Its open house is this Sat, 20 Nov 9 am to 12 noon. The school is in Sengkang.
