Can anyone here tell me what is expected during the school orientation? Do I have to buy the books and uniform on that day or do they actually have other dates that I can buy? Will the children be asked to do any \"test\" on that day as well? Cos I heard there are some schools doing it.

Before the Orientation, you would receive a set of leaflets by mail stating what to bring & take note on the day of orientation.

There's 4 color codes (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) for the PE attire, depends on which color code your child is posted to.

During orientation, the kids will be lead by their form teacher to a classroom for some activities while the parents will be in the school hall having some briefing by the Principal etc.
No test required for the kids during the orientation.

You can buy the books & uniform on the day of orientation or on other dates as stated in the leaflet given to you.

The books & stationeries are supplied by http://www.pacificbookstores.com/

You can purchase some of the items from Popular or other bookstores due to price difference.

Hope the above info is useful to you. πŸ˜„

Thanks for your info, eileen1102! I roughly got the idea of what is expected for the orientation. Thanks again! πŸ˜„

As I heard from the principal that AGPS will undergo upgrading in another 2 years’ time, I wonder how the environment will affect the students during this period of time.

the principal requested to stay on in the school till she retires πŸ™‚

Hi WCW,

Where u get this info?
If its true, its really a gd news coz Mrs Dhillon is a very nice Principal.

From the open house I attended last month, Mrs Dhillon is really a friendly and approachable principal. I can also tell that she understands n cares for the children. It will be such a blessing to have such a nice principal around isn't it! Just wondering which primary school was she previously from? N how about the teachers in anchor green? The school is a more well rounded one instead of academically driven right?

Mine ds2 tuition on chinese and math. Can't find a english one suitable as he can read and I just want something to help in creative writing.

TAS timing no good for us.

Hi Jedamum,

May I know if the math tuition your DS2 is having now a 1 to 1 tuition or enrichment class? Cos I have been thinking of enrolling my DS for it. As for my son's english class with I can Read, I thought of changing him to another center cos he's able to read now. I would like to find one that can strengthen his grammar and also creative writing. Anyone here has any recommendations?

Thanks Jedamum! Will check it out.

I read that tas is popular for english. They do not have the p1weekend slot that I want. I am waiting for ICL p1 enrolment, if can't get a slot to coincide with ds1 slot, we will try the neighbourhood centre.

For math, it is not one to one. My boy is with math hub. Mostly non drill questions, tangram and games to instillI
Interest in math. They just introduce multiplication concepts this week. A recap of what I had taught my boy at home. He enjoys the games segment.

My son is in P1 this yr in AGPS, so far he's performing well under his teachers guidance.

The principal & VPs are very friendly too.

Fyi, this sch has a no homework policy for wkend, so that kids can enjoy bonding time with family & hv more time to learn their spellings.
So unless the kids can't finish their work in sch, else no homework on Fri.

Hi eileen1102,
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, from what I see during the open house, I can tell that the Principal is really nice. Hopefully she will be staying with the school for another few years..as I heard that there might be a change of principal every 5/6 years.

As for the no homework policy for wkend, does it applies to all levels? Or it's only for lower primary? Btw, do they have CCA for P1/P2 students?

I don't think the principal will be changed so soon, if I'm not wrong, she requested to stay on for a few more yrs (according to my gf's info whom work in a sch & has these info).

I'm not too sure if the no homework on wkend policy applies to all levels or just for lower primary.

As for CCA is only for P3 & above.

FYI, 1st 3 days for P1 is very enjoyable for the kids coz its a \"3 day camp\" scheme, parents are also able to join in their kids on certain programs on these 3 days.
Thanks for your info! We are really looking forward to it. πŸ˜„

wow...your boy read chapter books already? any series u can recommend?

my boy prefers non-fiction. he look at the many words and little pictures of chapter books and will go πŸ˜“ too many words.

u can try Stilton books, they are as attractive n interesting
or the library has many interesting chapter books, eg, DC super pets

Hi,

Stilton books are indeed interesting and funny! My DS enjoys reading them so much that he can't get enough of them. I guess it's quite addictive!!! πŸ˜‚
