    • RE: All About Measuring Home-School Distance

MOE takes serious action to those who use false address. Do take own children in consideration as children may be out of school should they make random checks.

This is to protect those who are really living in that area of <1km. Not many have financial ability to rent units just to use address for P1 registration. It will take away a place for children who geniunely live near school.

      Thanks!

It's not correct to say that the kids can choose to be in GEP or Thoburn. Those who qualify for GEP can choose to remain in ACJS to do Thoburn, thereby giving up their GEP seats. But not all the boys in Thoburn qualified for GEP.

Similarly for MGS's Sophia Blackmore programme. Of the 30+ girls in SBC, only fewer than 10 qualified for GEP. The rest didn't make it through the selection test.
      Hi!

U may wish to see ACS Thoburn/MOE website. They have to select cos there is only one Thoburn class. That's what i meant for those eligible GEP.

      Thanks!

my child is there since pre-nursery

i must say the 1st 2 years were good - total Chinese immersion
      K1 & K2 - very average or below average
i didnt withdraw 'cause i felt that it would be too disruptive

if you are the \"diligent\" type, you can transfer at k1 to other kindys - eg, barker road and st james which i heard is fabulous

i personally had an opportunity to meet & chat with the sch principal at a social function
she really spoke like a principal - impressed with how she spoke and explained the curriculum to me

nanyang has problems with staff (i feel)
      Hi!

The Principal and VP have left without a word. The school is currently running without any P and VP. Nanyang teachers also come and go.

From my understanding the Thoburn programme is an after school programme and they do more projects rather than more advanced syllbus work. So not really comparable to GEP at all. Can someone who knows better please enlighten?

      Hi!

ACSJ Thoburn Programme is not after school programme. They stay back in school only Once a week.

They can opt to be in either GEP or Thoburn Programme. Those who r intellectually talented and eligible for Thoburn must based on overall performance and teacher’s recommendation. A few schools are following suit e Thorburn programme. Eg: MGS,Sophia Blackmore Programme. πŸ™

I have obtained directly from both ACS Primary & ACSJunior last year PSLE results. ACS Pri results definitely better than Junior. Primary had done well for all 4 subjects. Their overall result for Chinese is also 2% above National Average πŸ˜„

Naturally, pls also understand that ACS Primary has GEP programme. That's why results better. πŸ™ Just like if you check Nan Yang Pri naturally PSLE results is superb cos they have the most GEP classes. Thanks

Where did u obtain the results from may i ask? Would like to take a look. Thanks! :!:

I know that the parents who are involved in the phase that is being balloted can be present but I don't know about the rest of the public.
may i know who r the people who are doing the balloting? PVs or school staff? do we call the school up to check when they r doing the ballot so that anxious parents can witness? πŸ™[/quote]Hi!

Usually people doing ballot are principals, committee and PVs. U will be informed when there is a need for yr child to go for ballet.

      Double ks?

      buds,
I'd really doubt it, its not an insignificant investment in time and energy. In all of the last few years that KSP have been tracking, there has not been a single instance, even in the very popular schools, whereby it came even remotely close to a balloting situation in phase 2A. Even if one were to be PSG, you can only hope to dilute the 2B pool slightly, by a small percentage point. If it be the case, it is seriously misinformed or misguided parent. More likely, it be some parent, perhaps sour at the lack of opportunity, speculating out loud and the story starting to make it rounds and assuming urban legend status (plenty of such things out there).

I don't mind doing PSG, depending how much time I have, but it's not with a view to deny any parent a chance at PV. As I said, I dislike this whole PV concept.

      Hi,

I agree to a certain extent about the PV concept. Popular schools like ACS do not even entertain/accept PVs πŸ˜› . They recognise volunteering work by PVs only when their children are already attending ACS. Parents Vounteers(some schools addressed them) helped greatly in school
Carnivals, Teachers' Day, fund raisng, Contest etc.. πŸ™ School Libraries are as good as run by parents V! Alumni is one of the greatest strength! :celebrate:

Therefore, only 1 km children if theey are lucky, may get a chance to get into e school.

I also heard that there are also some who stopped immediately when their children get into the school.
It is very much depends on e 'Culture' of the school.

Both school esp Primary @ Barker are just difficult to get in. ACS PRIMARY has 8 Classes for P1 whereas Junior has 9 classes cos Junior has a biggeR premise.

ACS PRIMARY premise has BRMC(Church), BRMCK(Kindergarten), Primary School & Secondary School.

      ACS JUNIOR occupys whole building.

For ACS fans, better try ACS Junior as balloting result always shown abt a class more for vacancies. 240(Pri) vs 270(Junior)

Good Luck to all parents who registrating children this year! πŸ˜› :celebrate:
