Not a baking master but one who bakes as a form of stress relief. haha.

We are all also learning. God knows how many failed attempts I've had. šŸ˜›

Aside from the cracked top, the cake texture and taste is ok? Personally, I am not so particular about how it looks more on how is the taste. šŸ˜‰

Anyways, the 1st thought will be the temp of the oven is too high. Cannot follow the temp and baking timing blindly as each oven is different. That said, it takes a few tries to understand your own oven. C
heck out this site for more information on the possible problems.

metoo, so long it taste good
and it is not burnt, i'm ok with the appearance.

ya, agree....that's what i told counter 11, abt her oven.

Thanks Funz and Augmum for your replies. I baked in a 3-in-1 oven (microwave, grill and convection) at 180 deg celsius for 40 mins. My first attempt last week was bad. My son commented that the texture was more like bread than cake, and the top was tough like cookie! :?

Tried again this afternoon, beat the mixture for a shorter time. The texture feels more like cake this time, but the cake still raised quite high. Taste-wise, it was ok for both attempts.

Funz, thanks for the link. Will check it out. I need to get this right before I have the confidence to attempt other cakes. šŸ˜‰

      Hi baking masters,

Saw all your postings on baking, and I was so inspired to try. I am an amateur, and decided to try to bake a butter cake. However, the cake raised very high and cracked at the top. Can the masters help me understand why it turned out like that? Did I beat the butter too much?

So embarrassing, cannot even do a simple butter cake.
      Pls help....

      Hi,

I hv a son at P5 and a daughter at P2 this year. I have been browsing KiasuParents.com the whole afternoon, and there is so much to read and learn about. This is a wonderful forum for parents!

My son is taking PSLE next year, so I am particularly interested in topics in PSLE preparation, sec school selection, motivation techniques for children, etc. Looking forward to discovering more from here!
