Finances wise, I would be able to stop working for one to two years. But it would be tight, so I hope to stop working for one year. The question is whether p5 or p6 makes more sense.
My son is an above average kid but is unfocused and lacks in self discipline. I can give him work to do in the day but there’s always a lot of nagging and haggling to get them done. I hope that I can be home to build up a routine and to foster some discipline in him. Easier.to manage when time is more flexible for me,especially when I also have a younger gal entering p1 next year too.
Thanks to the mummies who shared with me on the experiences with the kids.

RE: To take unpaid leave in P5 or P6 for PSLE ?
Hi, my son is entering p5 next year and I am a full time working mother. I was contemplating to take one year unpaid leave either in P5 or P6 to coach my son for PSLE.
My personal thoughts are P6 would be super stressful for the kid as there would be a lot of homework and classes from the school itself. There won't be much I can do anyway during this year except to make sure he has enough rest and well balanced play.
I would prefer P5 because I have heard the steep ascent of difficulty in the syllabus and that there would be a lot of cramping of topics including p6 topics into P5. This is the perfect time to work on the foundation so that P6 will be more smooth sailing.
However, my bosses think that P5 is not a strong reason to justify the unpaid leave.
In any case, after a lot of consideration, I will be leaving the corporate world to focus on my kids. :rahrah:
I would like to hear the thoughts of the mummies and daddies here. What do you think? -
RE: Pasir Ris Primary
Hmm, you are mistaken. There are tests from p1 onwards, except that p1 does not stream students to p2. Streaming starts from p2. As for extra enrichment lessons, I would think most parents would sign kids on because of their kiasum, not so much because the kids are not prepared for the exams in school.

RE: Pasir Ris Primary
My boy is in P4 this year. For his p1 and P2, homework is very managable. In fact, I still can give him my own homework for the day. P3, slightly more homework but I must say it’s still managable as well. During my son era, he has small tests, the school say it’s holistic tests, to me, still tests la. But there is no streaming for p1. Results in p2 will determine the class in p3. Btw, i am a FTWM.

Dear ctrlaltdel,
Does your child's teacher teach kids how to create tension build up in writing compo, or teach kids how to use creative phrases, during each compo lesson ?
May I know this principal / founder -
Teach which level ?
Thanks for sharing.
Dear happyheart,
2014 success timetable is out.
Got 2 branches :-
I) @ Serangoon north avenue 4
http://success.edu.sg/main/2014-classes/serangoon-branch/
Ii) @ ang mo Kio branch
http://success.edu.sg/main/2014-classes/ang-mo-Kio-branch/
The tutor should be teaching at all levels, timing differs. Got to check with the recept lady which class she is taking next year.
As for teaching method, I don't really ask my son Abt it. But from bits and pieces, yes, I think the teacher will show four pictures, and go through creative phase for them to use in the compo. -

My DS studied at Success, but he's doing the English creative writing. His teacher is the principal and also the founder of the school. She teaches very well but is very stern. Her classes are very big sized, about 30 students all packed in one classroom. One thing about the school is that it is very cold place. Must bring jacket. The school fees are also v reasonable, 220 per term.
ctrlatdgl, May I know which level is your DS in? Is it possible to learn in a class size of 30? Do they write a compopiece each week?
My son has just finished P3. The teacher is capable to handle big classes. Only her classes are huge cos she's highly recommended by a lot of mummies. But some parents might not like it. Personally, when my son entered the class at p2 level, he was completely lost and has no idea how to even write anything. Now, he is able to write one decent compo. So
I am happy with the results.
They write a compo every week, spelling every week too. Students are required to rewrite the compo as corrections. They also do some reading to learn some new vocab.
