Does Global Learning has English tuition (other than Maths?) - the principal's girls are at TLL for lessons.

My DS has attended their holiday Maths Olympaid programme before and I am not impressed. I had to end up \"correcting\" the teacher (who claims to be a GEP teacher) and giving him the \"correct\" answers to some questions. And these are simple questions for P3 level only. That's why my experience with them has not been good.

I heard though they had a pretty good Maths teacher with them (can't remember name), so I suppose if you can get that teacher, it might be good.

may be my DS very fortunate then

he got very good PR with the teachers, got lots of extras, covered a full year course in half the time
Hi verykiasu2010, can you pm me the teacher. I am comtemplating to join for the P1 class. Tks alot. 😄

      Hi Dafodil,

Hv PMed u, pls check, for Toa Payoh Branch, u can look for person-in-charge Shan Shan..., my daughter is also from this branch.

Thanks purple05 for the referral. The trial doesn't turned out to be too well. DS don't seems to be keen in the programme. San san mentioned that he'll probably need a few trial lessons to try out. My next trial will be coming sun, 12.45pm...

If not, i'll probably go for Jelic.

      icic... no worries, go slow....
Hi purple05, i signed up with San san yesterday. Hve PMed u my son's details. You can get referral disc from them. 😄

Hi, i need advice. I was also thinking enrolling my 4 yr old son to CMA, then proceed to MPM. If i withdraw my son from CMA after 2 yrs, will it be ok? Will he remember the \"formula\" thought and continue to use it for mental calculation? Pardon me for asking this ignorant question. I am still doing research on this area and i read a thread somewhere that his son forgot the formula when he's in P1...

Ideally i thought of enrolling for both but it seems a bit \"stress\" for a kid to attend 3 math classes in a week , so i gave up the idea. Am i thinking at the right track? For him to attend CMA and get the basic mental calculation right, then proceed to MPM to grasp the mathematical concepts? Its rather difficult to make a decision. :?

I was in the same situation as you. Then I did some research and found that many parents are looking for a balance between mental calculations and process skills (for problem solving).

As such, I've taken up the challenge of learning abacus and am now a qualified instructor teaching at Nan Chiau Primary School 3G Abacus.

I will be opening a few abacus classes next year focusing on 3G Abacus techniques for mental calcuation and my own materials for problem solving for K1, K2 and lower Primary.

Wow! Kudos to you! That's really great! I will never take up such challenge...its too challenging for me.

    • RE: Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment

      Charmaine_chong:
      Hi Dafodil,

What a coincidence! Your kids are same age as mine. My kids -1st (Mar06)and 2nd (Jul08) .

I have no experience for that particular branches.

I had sent my son to Zoophonics at Siglap Centre. I personally don't find it very good.

For I Can Read, i can share with you my colleauges experiences. What i gather is
      1. My A colleague reads to her kids many books before bedtime daily. Not much homework for ICR. Her kids benefited and do well in school.
      2. My B colleague sent her daughter there without reading any books to her. Her child couldn't read well. Just simply attending enrichment classes.

Aside a good school, parents need to guide the children at home too in order to achieve your goal unless the child can learn without repetition/revision.

For my case, i sent my son to MMI since Jan10 to learn phonics. Had decided to teach him at home wihout attending phonics class. He will end his class there end of this month.

If you are interested to teach phonics at home, please go to popular bookstore to get My preschool world series (book 1-4) that cums with readers/activities/vcd. Is about $30 a set.

For one to one, you may try to call Mrs Thong at phone no. 91063531.

Sorry if it doesnt help much.
Hi charmaine, it does help! Thanks your valuable info 😄

Yeah! So coincidence! Both kids the same age :celebrate:

Phew! I am on the right track with colleague A...reading storybooks everyday without fail since infant..but he still doesn't know how to read yet. He's reading from memory (based on P&J 1a etc. series). I am also teaching him reading thru phonics. Like your son, i realised that some of his peers have started reading...

I am hoping that ICR will help to expedite his reading progress.

Hi, i am pondering bt Zoophonics (thomson) & I can read (AMK). I've brought my son for the assement in both centre but i can't tell which sch is better. Both teachers seems to be rather nice and friendly.

Anyone have any recommendations? My son seems to prefer I can read but having read the comments abt I can read...i am abit skeptical. Is it really that bad?

Rather confused! :? Anyone have any good teachers to share?
      Pls help.

Perhaps i am slow in digesting the info

Yup Yup. Its 3 yr's time. I've lotsa qns but i guess i better search my qns in the thread b4 i seek help, else it'll be repetition again.

As i read on, its rather discouraging coz e nearest ideal sch (ie. CHS) seems a bit far fetched...I shouldn't have moved out of tampines (1km within st hildas)...haiz!! 😞
