I’m a little KS also, the transition from P6 to Sec 1 sounds daunting. Apart from adapting to a new environment, still have to balance 7-8 subjects. Would like to know how do parents prepare for this change. Can any parents share some strategies? Are there any courses that cater to such students?

Hi there,
Is she a Yamaha teacher?Vevey:
Hi I am paying $140 per month to travel to piano teacher's hm and she is following yamaha holiday schedule so there may be 3 lessons in a mth but still pay the same for the 45 mins. Is this reasonable?
I know of a current Yamaha teacher w the same schedule & charging this amt for Grade 1.
I am looking for a yamaha teacher, do you think you can recommend her to me? My child has attended JMC at yamaha for 2 years and I would like her to try out on individual basis. Her charges are $140 is considered ok cos if you go to yamaha individual it is at $145.
-

wow, I didn't know that. May I ask what kind of oil is best? and do you use a new batch of oil each time you heal/cool? & how many times do you repeat this procedure?Daisyflowers:
I just bought the enamel coated cast iron frying pan at a steal from Isetan and regretted it somehow. For some reason, the stirfries and omelets keep getting stuck to the pan. Putting more oil before frying doesn't help. Can anyone advise?
Did you oil the pan first? You pour a lot of oil on it, then you heat it up... and cool it down and heat it up and cool it down. This will leave a patina of oil. Try not to wash with soap to get rid of this patina. It is what makes it non-stick and also protects it from rust.
how do you wash an oily frying pan without soap? :scratchhead:
unfortunately I've scrubbed it a little and now there are 'shadows' of leftover omelettes on the surface that I haven't been able to get rid of :slapshead: -

RE: Comparing English Enrichment Programmes
Hi,
Just wanted to share my experience with a small group tutor at Holland-the little ink pot. I decided to try it out after reading a review by averagejoe at this link http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1131&start=90
as my son is taking his PSLE this year. I must say I never heard of this place until then and I was not sure if it will work out- we stayed at Punggol- but I was willing to give it a try as my boy's compo was really borderline, failing at times. It took a great leap of faith because I did not visit the place before the first class and also a lot of travelling but in the end it was worth it. The class was very focused in creative writing with a small group of 6 kids. Every week, the class completes one full composition and one functional writing piece. The materials were very comprehensive, with the teacher covering techniques like sensory writing using 5 senses, descriptive styles, analyzing good compositions, personification and things like that. My son had a chance to write a balanced number of picture and situation based compositions. He actually look forward to class each week,as the teacher will 'showcase' a compo written by a child in the class and make copies of that compo for every child to keep. The marking is very detailed and thoughtful, with the purpose of enhancing what my son wanted to say. He said that the teacher understood what he wanted to express and helped him find the right words and phrases. For prelims, his compo marks improved so much that his form teacher called me to compliment him.
He ended the program last week and was sad as he had made friends there. He also liked the teacher who threw a mini-party to wish all the P6 kids good luck. When the English paper ended on Thursday, my boy could not wait to tell me that one of the compositions he had written during tuition came out in the exam. That filled him with a lot of confidence and made me wonder how big an impact the right teacher can make on the attitude towards writing. I'm very glad I found the right help for my dd to overcome his hurdle. Now 2 more papers to go... -
RE: All About Handwriting
Hi parents,
My 2 children are left handed and I never noticed any problems with the way they hold their pencils until they started primary school and their teachers feedback to me. Since then (5 years on…), my oldest is still gripping the pen in a fist-like way and my daughter is holding her pencil so tightly that her knuckles are sometimes white from the strain. As a result, she hates to write. I tried buying her some of those grips you can attach on the pens but did not succeed. Unfortunately, my boy is already 12 this year. It doesn’t bother him but I want him to hold his pen the right way. Do you think it is too late for him to make the change?
Has any parent here ever faced the same situation? Would appreciate some sharing. Thanks! -

RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)
Hi parents, can anyone recommend or know of a tutor who conducts Chinese enrichment for small groups in the Marine Parade area? It is for my 5 year old daughter. She does not like tuition centers as the groups are quite big and she is shy.
Thanks in advance!
