RE: All About Taekwondo
Hi Ronda,
It depends on what is your reasons for doing Taekwondo.
Few of the benefits:
Enhance self-esteem by heightening your physical and mental powers.
Build confidence by encouraging you to succeed and to take control of your life.
Develop discipline by thoroughly training your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwondo.
Teach self-defense by training you to recognize situations in which physical self-defense may be necessary, and teaching you how to control such situations to your advantage.
Strengthen your mind and body through increased physical coordination and mental discipline.
Of course, it depends heavily on the club and trainer goals when delivery the training. -
RE: All About Taekwondo
A lot of time, in Singapore, coaches do not teach TKD Philosophy
In Taekwondo, it adopt different philosophical underpinnings. Many of these underpinnings however refer back to the Five Commandments of the Hwarang as a historical referent. For example, Choi Hong Hi (Founder) expressed his philosophical basis for Taekwondo as the Five Tenets of Taekwondo
Courtesy (yeui / 예의, 禮儀)
Integrity (yeomchi / 염치, 廉恥)
Perseverance (innae / 인내, 忍耐)
Self-control (geukgi / 극기, 克己)
Indomitable spirit (baekjeolbulgul / 백절불굴, 百折不屈)
These tenets are further articulated in a Taekwondo oath, also authored by Choi:
I shall observe the tenets of Taekwondo
I shall respect the instructor and seniors
I shall never misuse Taekwondo
I shall be a champion of freedom and justice
I shall build a more peaceful world
From the underpinning, Singapore Taekwondo Federation come out with STF Pledge as below:
“We, the members of Singapore Taekwondo Federation, pledge that
· we shall remain humble, honest and helpful at all times,
· we shall respect our elders, parents, coaches, seniors and one another regardless of race, language, class or creed,
· we shall believe in ourselves and persist no matter how great the challenge to achieve our noble aspirations,
· we shall develop our characters, qualities and abilities to serve our community and our country and
· we shall abide by the rules and regulations of Taekwondo and the laws of Singapore.”
But again, only Brown Tip and above will learn about this. -

I guess all kids do that. Others than those that play by the rule, like my son.
Has any of the kids ever engage in all out sparring, totally disregard in techniques and just whack?
My club has one teenage injury his wrist while kicked by others that go all out. Two week MC.
