      Hi! I would appreciate if anyone from Y4 this year can pm me the list of Year 4 math topics. My son’s math is not strong so he would like to go through the topics for the first two terms during holidays.

      Thank you.

      Can someone help me with the below math question:

      A shipping company transported 100 vases to another country for Miss Shanti. It charged $15 for each vase safely transported and will pay Miss Shanti $20 for every broken vase. If Miss Shanti paid a total of $1,220 to the shipping company, how many of the vases are broken?

      Thank you.

      guest2013:
      december21:

      A charity gave a group of children red packets during the Chinese New Year. If they gave each child $10, then 12 children would not get the red packets. If they gave each child $6, there would be a remaining sum of $80. How many red packets were given out?

      Suggested answer:

      Assuming no of children getting $10 red packets = X
      By reducing $4 each from X, the total amount is $152 (ie. $6 x 12 children + $80 remaining)

      Therefore, X = $152 / $4 = 38

      Total children will be:
      38 + 12 = 50

      50 red packet of $6 was given out

      Thank you for your suggested answer. Your answer is correct.

      The method suggested by the book is as below:

      Shortage= 12 x $10 = $120
      Excess= $80
      $120+$80 = $200
      Difference in the amount of money for each red packet = $10-$6=$4
      $200 / $4 = 50
      50 red packets were give out.

      May I know which is easier to apply? I'm so sorry but I am still quite blur on both methods.. :?
