NJC used to accept 4-years IP but not anymore now after it was extended to a 6-year IP with the first batch in 2009.

@ ilovechamomile: actually, now school starts on the tenth of january for us. And can I ask what CCA everyone joins? Thanks for your tips by the way :celebrate:

There's this CAFE programme. You'll join 3 different CCAs throughout the year for 10 sessions each. The available choices are the niche CCAs. You can also join the other CCAs but you'll have to go for both the CAFE and the other CCA.

Hi and thanks for taking your time to check this out.

I am a student in NJC and I just took my PSLE last year. I feel a little insecure without much knowledge about the school and would be delighted if anybody would care to share any interesting experiences, information etc. The question I am most concerned of is what time would I have to leave my home if I stay in bulky panjang and want to reach school by 7.05am. Thanks once again! :?:
Hello junior(: I stay in bukit panjang too. I usually take the 6.30 bus and can reach around 7 unless there's traffic jam.
phankao,

Do you know whether NJC is undergoing any reno, reconstruction,...etc for their campus. I heard they only build boarding,.. Will they be doing like RV to have a totally brand new campus in future?

NJC is undergoing renovations for indoor sports hall, junior high library (current one is going to be used for senior high) and a blackbox. The building of the bridge connecting the school and boarding school is complete. Other renovations that were done this year such as upgrading the general office are complete.

May I know what is a blackbox?
Black box theatre is usually a large square room with black walls and a flat floor. It is used for drama practices. In Sec 1, NJCians attend drama lessons and will perform (as a class) when they reach Sec 2. This will help to facilitate the drama program.

With 255+2, I am seriously not sure if my son will \"shine\" in hci if he manages to get in since he will be the bottom of the cohort but if I don't seize this chance of letting him try out in an ip school, will we regret it in future?

In hci, is the allocation of classes bases on t score so all those who juz made it will go to the bottom classes or each class has a mix of students?
Personally my PSLE score was near the COP of my school and I got in through DSA. It sort of \"reset\" for me, I'm scoring better than some of my peers who score higher than me for PSLE. (Around the top 20% in the cohort) But there are students who didn't score very well for PSLE and don't work hard at all after going to sec 1 and results didn't turn out very well in the end.

In NJC, boarding is a requirement.

i am also considering putting my son to NJC. But when i read abt Boarding as a requirement, i change my mind. My son is too pampered to be taking care of himself at the age of 13.
Actually boarding is a very good exposure to independence and it was an excellent experience for me since boarding has just ended. Boarding is only for a term a year and for Sec 1, it is in the last term. Me & my friends has totally enjoyed our time in boarding and it was a good preparation for independent learning and teamwork before we actually had our adventure camp at the end of the term.

But of course it does depend on your son's willingness šŸ˜„ I am just sharing my opinion of boarding for parents or students who are interested to know how is it like. And I am looking forward to another term of boarding next year šŸ™‚
My dd scored 255+2HMT, 3A* and an A. She still wants to try for NYGH, RGS, NJC, followed by St Nics.

Seems so risky - I would happily settle for St Nics, as it will be walking distance from our home when the sch move back in 2012. But she still wants to try! But I'm thankful for her results, as she is the cool as cucumber type šŸ™‚

I am current NJC student and a friend of mine was rejected by my school at first but appealed successfully with the same score last year. Nevertheless, very good luck to your daughter šŸ˜„

How do you like the school (NJC)?
I would say I've never regretted coming here šŸ˜„ Although I admit the campus is pretty old, we are currently having renovations. The Integrated Programme is good for students who don't want to take O levels as usual. The school stresses that without having to take 'O's it gives a better opportunity for students to get exposed to more other activities for the first few years. šŸ™‚ And NJC really emphasizes on personal development and exposure to new stuffs and is not really the 'very stressful' kind that will give students a lot of stress. I would say NJC is a very considerable choice for your daughter (of course it does depends on her willingness). All the best to her šŸ˜„
