      Hi all,

Just want to clarify. For this year Psle batch, if we want to join the VJ IP programme in 2013, do we need to join CEDAR or can we join MGS.

Not necessary I think. They said you can choose to enter the IP in 2012 at the end of sec 2. You can check the IP faqs just too be sure.
      Marble:
i m choosing the school for my girl, her scores is 246, any advise between cedar and chij st nicholas. :? :?
246 might be a bit risky for Cedar. Last year's coph for cedar was 246.

I doubt if your dd will be able to get into MGS with agg of 245. The COP has been >250 in past years.

The only advantage MGS has over SCGS is you get a bonus point for entry into ACJC. Mind you, this is ACJC, not ACSI.

With an aggregate of 245, it would probably be better for your dd to stay in SCGS, work her way into the top 2 classes in Sec 2 so she can participate more fully in the Talent Programme there. If she proves herself she can apply for an IP school in Sec 3.

thank you so much for you quick reply....!!! how about Cedar ? hope to to hear more from you...tks tks

How badly do you want your DD to be in IP? Cedar's COP last year was 246. So 245 might or might not make the cut off. And the IP starting in 2013 will only be offered to 50 sec 3 students. I'm not sure how they will make the selection, but probably those in the top 50 in the cohort, unless some of the opt out. So unless you're very certain your DD will be able to make IP, I would advise staying in SCGS. Of course, if she would love to go Cedar or some other school, then it's up to her.[/quote]
thanks so much for the valuable input!

hi…can you pls adv me if i am correct to say that if my daughter (SCGS 's 2010 psle batch ) wants to go into IP program , and since scgs doesnt offer IP for this batch and if her score is at around 245 (not good enough for this year’s IP avail schools) , she shld try to opt for MGS (ASCI) or Cedar (VJC) for normal Sec 1 ( since IP is not yet avail for this year’s student there ) and join IP only in their third year when these schools IP program starts). is this option a viable route for students with lower score such as 245 and yet want to try to opt for IP, to first enter these schools as normal sec 1 and 2, seemingly be in a better position to be considered entry into IP at third year same school. Is there something i forget to consider here? As opting to leave SCGS for Cedar sounds like a very unusual thing to do, if not for this IP consideration, would most appreciate if u can advise me . thanks so much!

does this mean that eg if a girl who scored 250 may not be able to get IP at CGS (if more than half of her cohort at cgs scored above 250), but a girl who scored 240 may get IP at SCGS (no disrespect, just eg) if half of her cohort at scgs scored below 240)?

Please don't get so hung up on COP
which is really just a number used as a point of reference
for the last person with dat T score admitted into a sec. school
in posting exercise (sans DSA etc...)
MOE adjust PSLE raw scores into T scores.
In previous years, the T scores for d top 8 -10 % of each cohort,
fall ard 250 +- 2 to 3 points, after applying normal distribution.
These 8 - 10% generally choose the IP track or NUSHS.

With an additional 7 IP schools, more students can get onto IP track,
      perhaps with lower T scores.
But d COP is not the criteria which gets you into your school of choice.
It is how ur kid performs against his/her cohort in dat year.
The higher up he/she is up in d pecking order,
      the greater choices he/she has.
It is as simple as dat.

I read in the Straits Times today about how a group of 8 old boys and teachers of VS has courted Cedar. I am really impressed with the Victorian brand of education, and won't have any hesitation sending my children to VS and CGS.

I think a VS-VJC merger will be in the pipeline in the future, as mentioned in the same newspapers report.

In the same report, its mentioned that the Cedar Girls on IP will remain in Cedar for 4 years. Does that mean the VS boys on IP will also remain in the VS for 4 yrs. So what's happening with the current VJC VIP model where the students start their IP in VJC in Sec 3,4 and then carry thru to the JC1/2 years. Is that going to be discontinued in the future? It will be such a waste as that pgm has been around since 2005.

Yesterday's news mentioned that 50 VS boys and 50 Cedar girls entering sec 1 in 2011 will be selected to do the IP in Sec 3 in 2013 as interim measure (since the vs/cedar/Vjc IP will only start in 2012). I presume this batch will be doing the current VIP for the time being. Does this mean that the VIP will not accept students other than VS/Cedar for this cohort? VIP is currently open to all other schools to apply for entering at Sec3. This is a pertinent issue for the P6's this year.
