      40 + [---------] + 40 --> 24 +88
      80 + [---------] --> 112
      [---------] --> 32

      Men --> 32
      Boys --> 32+24 = 56

      Total no of people --> 32 + 56 + 40 + 88 = 216

      OR

      Adults --> 32 + 40 = 72
      Children --> 2*72 = 144

      Total no of people --> 72 + 144 = 216

      Thanks to BigDevil, Maths Tutor Mr. Lim and edlynnalexander for the working answer using Guess & Check and Assumption.


      Though for assumption, I am still confuse. Step 1 assume all pupils are girls, can use boys?
      Steps 3 is the total cards 1 boy and 1 girl have, correct?

      five year old sweets [----][6]
      total = [----]+[----]+6 = 114
      [---]= 54
      since each four year old has 2 sweets there are 54/2 = 27 four year old kids.
      there are (54+6)/3 = 20 five year old kids.
      there are 47 kids altogether.

      For (a), I am trying to use algebra, but could not figure out after having the days as \"x\"

      10x+40=5x
      5x+70=10x.....is this correct?
