    • RE: 2016 P1 Registration Exercise for 2017 In-Take

      Hi Ruru,

I'm not having a third kid! Haha so still very much prefer a girls school. My first choice is SCGS but I'm not an old girl, and moving within 1km is still very risky due to the balloting.

So falling back on RVPS. What I didn't know is that it's a pretty popular school! Within 1km gotta ballot last year. That's why I applied to be a PV... Don't know much about the school actually, except that it's very near my current place, offers HCL and the results are pretty decent. Incidentally I was from RVHS, too bad the two schools are not affiliated 😢

As for CHIJ Kellock, I only thought about it when my friends told me my girls are eligible for P2B cos they are Catholics. But the school is a little far, outside 2km, and I know absolutely nothing about it! Do you have anything to share?

Good luck with your third kid. I hope it's a boy for you too! I don't have anymore energy to deal with a third baby, too sleep-deprived! My almost 2-yo still wakes up at least twice a night, as do my 4-yo occasionally. Faint.

I’m interested in finding out more about CHIJ Kellock too. Saw on the school’s website that they have a number of interesting events, but don’t personally know any friends who have daughters there who can provide some insights…

    • RE: 2016 P1 Registration Exercise for 2017 In-Take

Hello everyone! Glad I’ve found this thread. I have 2 daughters, born in 2010 and 2012. I’ve been thinking and thinking about the schools, and have finally narrowed my choices to CHIJ Kellock and RVPS. I’m within 1km of RVPS, have applied for PV but no reply yet. For CHIJ Kellock, the girls are baptized Catholics but are outside 2km. Not sure of my chances so waiting to see the results of this year’s registration.

I’m also concerned about which school will fit my daughters better. Headache.

    • RE: [Central] Primary Schools

I just saw too that out of 200 vacancies in RVPS, there are already 100 children registered for Phase 1. We are planning to send our daughter there in 2017 but it looks like a pretty difficult school to get into…

    • RE: Indecent behaviour in a pre school.

I’d be so upset with the school! How can they not notice these behaviors? I think pulling down some one’s shorts is a big deal. I feel for you. I hope the teachers and principal have a good answer and solution. Teaching your kid about protecting her privacy is important, but she may not understand completely and she’s only so young.

    • RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

      Dear all,

I hope you can give me some advice for choosing schools from your past experience.

My older dd was born in 2010. We’re currently staying in a rented apartment within 1km of River Valley Primary School and Alexandra Primary School, so these are my obvious choices. But because I have 2 girls, I’m kind of tempted to put them in a girls’ school too. We are Catholics, so I think we qualify for Phase 2B of the CHIJ schools. Considering IJ Toa Payoh and IJ Kellock, but we are outside 2km radius.

Would like to know, how did you go about deciding which school to choose? The one nearest to you? I don’t know much about the school culture of the schools, do I look out for their open house days? Confused confused confused! Our rental will be up in a years’ time, and are looking to buy but it seems the school will be an important factor now. Help!

    • RE: How to teach children to handle bullies

Hi Angelight, I would be very heart pain if it happened to my dd! I’m at a lost as to what to do, how to teach a 4 year old girl. There was a girl in her class who was very loud, very rough, and very temperamental. She often picks fights with her classmates, especially my dd cos she’s new in class. I’ve spoken to the teachers, who said they will monitor but ‘accidents’ inevitably happen. I’ve spoken to her super defensive parents, and got shrugged off by them. Only made myself more upset.

The situation eventually resolved itself when, thank goodness, her parents transferred her to another school. But how should I teach her to stand up for herself? Saying no firmly doesn’t work most times. Running away, sometimes my dd is not fast cos she’s quite blur. Ignoring agitated the bully even more. My husband asked her to hit back harder as a last resort, which she eventually did, but I am afraid that it will breed aggressive behavior. Headache.

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

      Hi all,

My dd is turning 4 years old soon. We are thinking of starting her on music lessons, considering MYC and Mandeville. Both are about the same price (high side of$200 per month), but I’m not sure which one progresses faster? Can anyone share your experience? I have zero music background. Thanks very much!

PS I may have posted in the piano costs thread wrongly, so if you see a repeat post, sorry!

    • RE: All About Piano Lesson Costs

To add, I know that for MYC (Music for Young Children), at the end of the four-year course, the child would be at Grade 1 level. In my dd’s case, she would have turned 8 years old. Can anyone share Mandeville’s program, at what age do they generally sit for Grade 1 exams if the child starts at 4 years old with no music background?

Sorry if I seem to be asking so many questions here. It’s just that the costs are very high. My impression of MYC is that it’s very fun and lively, small group learning, but I feel a lot of pressure to sign up. They keep persuading me to start my dd in existing classes, asking for deposits, etc. Mandeville, on the other hand, didn’t give much details. And I took my dd to Yamaha, she didn’t like it so I’m not considering.
