Mastery of EL writing is important for IP curriculum - yes please do. Furthermore, there is no stress (unlike WLC) during lessons: the children make frens and discuss about the themes being studied.

The number of W@W P2 classes usually increases 3fold cos there is very low demand in P1 for such intensive writing courses (most are still grappling with spelling and grammar). ~P1 Term 2 onwards, children will be encouraged to add in their own sentences; our final draft (1.5 pages) is often vastly different from the model compo.


(With no other EL enrichment) W@W assignments have helped us score full marks in school tests so far. School P1 Term 3 starts the children on writing (4 pictures plus helping words, weighted assessment in Term 4).

Teacher Agnes is likely to take another class in the new academic year @Amk branch.

I agree on a general level, but I felt his points lack depth and understanding on what is on the ground. Increasingly, lines are also being blurred between needs and wants. I for one think that structural adjustments are required but maybe some will belong to Chan Chun Sing's school of thought? A personal example: My child is currently in K2, entering P1 next year. Now, he is enrolled in an anchor operator childcare operator, which is probably as cheap as 1 can go to keep the dual income going... His Chinese is weaker relative to his English as do 70+% of Singaporean familes. Since the start of the year, we have been asked several times from both his preschool teachers to send him for Chinese tuition and related enrichment. They used the word, \"needs\" to drive home the point, or he will fail badly and can't keep up in P1, which will impact his esteem and cause psychological issues. Now, tuition and enrichment can be seen as both a want and need in this context dependent on view, but I will discuss how it has become a monster from the supplementary role it initially was.

Operationally, teachers can only teach at the average or at best, maybe the top 70th percentile pacing for the class. Now if everyone did not go for tuition, that will be fine, as the weaker ones can then go for tuition to keep up. However, in today's climate whereby it is so cutthroat (I went to the express stream in a SAP sec school with PSLE grades of 227 with some peers scoring lower. It is a non IP but band 1 school today with cut-off at 246 currently) & many families kiasu and majority stressed over each and single point, it becomes one whereby especially in good competitive schools, majority has tuition for fear of missing out. As a result, majority of the class is moving at a faster pace than yesteryear during our time where most survive without tuition. This faster pace is the new norm. In this new light, is tuition a need or want?

Ultimately, everyone hold different views and perceptions. We will see at the ballot box how many ppl agree or disagree with LHL. Hopefully there will not be another Halimah president select fiasco this round.

I believe housing (HDB) is still afforadable if we do our own financial planning and do not overstretch ourselves. But with current prices, it's quite tough for just one party to be working, and thus birth rates are not high.
But i think there need to be some clarity on the plans they want to carry out.

On education, it's a topic that gets discussed every year and while they do make some changes here and there, we are still not sure whether it will be sufficient.

For Singaporeans, they go through the MOE placement, so MOE will place the child in a school with available places before phase 3 starts.

I think they need to be more precise and clear on how these policies are going to work, eventho it is only going to be materialized in 20 years. Then the younger generation can do their due diligence and do their calculations and planning.
