GEP for Singaporean only.Better not participate for foreigners. it is sure of my experience.

Hi, care to elaborate, what is the experience? Foreigner or not, we’re all parents here so I think the info will still be useful for a lot of parents.

last two years ago,my daughter, her marks are always around 98 ,all subjects. she only pass first round.now my son turn,he got first in eng n maths and first in standard at primary 1 and 2. So he is very expected for that .today he got the sa2 eng compo mark,it is full mark. Now he is depressed not getting that. Please tell me any foreigners who got in the gep? If yes,i m wrong and my kids are not good enough.
School results don't mean one is suitable for GEP. But they normally can clear round 1, because round 1 is for school syllabus. Round 2 is quite different, what's your kids feedback about round 2? Normally GEP kids enjoy doing those kind of questions. And they feel bored in mainstream class. Since you are foreigners, I suppose your kids school is normal neighbourhood school. So it's quite easy to score full marks for all subjects in p1-p3. No offence, I know quite some Singaporeans top in school didn't get selected. Not only your kids.

I personally know a foreign girl now s1 got into GEP and a foreign boy now p6 got in as well. And they are just normal in GEP not top.

Your kids are good, just not suitable for GEP. They can still go to any secondary school, encourage them. They can make it.

We don't want kids to indulge in talking abt what's past. We're alr out of Spore & into 5th day of our trip. Kids must be swept off their feet fr that pressuring exams and rewarded for all their hard work. As usual, we're peppering the trip with readings of 红罗梦 & 西域记. They get to hv 15 min of screen games daily, btwn tour spots. So far we did rafting, Ferris wheels, Science, Arts & Cultural museums, & maglev rides. Will be going to the quiet mountains & beaches tmr. They've to help learn to topo(graphy) for next pit stops, etc. I've only learnt these skills during my young adulthood, not earlier. Think they like the lifeskills & experience.

The past cannot be retracked. Please move on & engaged your young ladies & chaps with new outdoor experiences.

Wish every child a relaxing time after your major exams!

      Work hard, play hard.
😆 红楼梦 and 西游记, don't show your DC your Chinese. 😄
But I don't think they can understand and enjoy 红楼梦. Yours is boy, right? Try 三国, they may like and need to learn in S1.

I would like to get the book \"Decoding DSA\", I think its the best place to post this message. Any parents willing to pass to me or sell? I will collect at your convenience. Thank you! Please email email: [email protected]

Its also available for loan at the library

Yes, you can borrow from library, at least 1-2 each branch, for reference only.
Quite a few won't be applicable, like the domains, gat tests, as moe procedure is changing, school procedures are changing.

Since DSA 2017 is over, I am seeking the advice of experienced parents here - my ds is in P5, any parents whose kids has successfully DSAed into HCI or RI, can share your experience and if there's any advice for those parents whose kids would be trying next year, please?

Anyone knows anything abt the Science or Maths camp that HCI conduct every year for the P6? I heard that if your ds does well, it will help with their DSA. How to join these camps? Can advise? Wonder if RI also have such camps?

      Thanks in advance!

DSA criteria and selection exercise might totally change next year. As for HCI Science and Maths camp, it is related to SMOPS. Kids who get Platinum or Gold in SMOPS are invited to 2 days HCI camp where they are divided into groups and given various task in Maths and Science to perform as a group and observed by teachers or Seniors. They interact with Seniors and teachers during the camp.totally agree, but even if you can't attend the camp, seems no affect DSA outcome
During DSA Selection interview, group interview were conducted and they were video recorded. DS didn't notice at allSome questions where asked to specific student and they were suppose to answer that and some were generally asked to see who leads the team with what kind of answers.
As for RI it does help if your child gets into top 20 of RI maths olympiad though thats not the only criterion it does play a very important role.although everyone is saying this, but I feel p5 and p6 overall results are more important
      Hope that helps.
My DS tried out first 20 questions from section A RGPS science prelims 2017. Since there is no answer key, those interested can pm me. I will send answers. We can compare and then check only when the answers differ. This is not fool proof but better than doing nothing.

Just to add on to Sursum's post, RI also has this Mathematics Outside the Classroom series for those interested in math. It's not MO but more to do with real life application of math. For the coming run (the 6th in the series), the boys are going to Sci Ctr to learn about winning strategies in Mastermind. The previous run talked about encryption and decryption algorithms. Invitation is opened to all.

MO may be esoteric but everyone can be educated to appreciate the practicality of math. 😄

Thank you for the useful info.
Support RI for this kind of teaching. Start from S1? Then the students would be quite busy.

Yes, this series is available from Y1 onwards.

Many boys I know take 2 CCA (1 core & 1 merit) and stay back in sch up to 4 times a week, including Sat. If they take 3rd Lang, that will add another long day to the week. So in a sense, they are quite busy with sch life.
Thank you, iRabbit.
I'll prepare DS mentally and physically for the secondary school life. 😄
Besides Euler club and maths club, is there any maths Olympiad training for S1? If yes, any one can attend or need selection? How many students?

      Thank you, experienced parents.

2 sessions of MO training for those not in Math club. Anyone can attend, no selection needed, no limit to the number of students attending.
