Has any mummy attended BC P2 creative english classes? My boy was there from K2 to P1. Was a good 2 years where I saw him speaks more confidently and his vocabulary bank got better. Just a little concerned when I was browsing through the worksheets he had done in P1 from his school and realize that his grammar and writing skills seems a little lacking. So I held on to register their P2 class this year. Was wondering if any mummy here can share? After seeing many reviews regarding TAS, MS etc, I do agree with many here that memorize compos seems pointless. It kills creativity as well as originality. But I agree to certain extent too that memorizing do give some pointers to those clueless children to have something to develop at a start, however, imo, it's not a long term solution. Now considering to enrole back to BC because I realize all the book reviews he had done for the past 2 years in BC starts to fall into place. They are suppose to read 2 books every week and write 2 to 3 short paragraphs to review each book. Content includes Author, Title, did they enjoy the book and why? and a rating to the book he read. The teacher marked and corrected his grammar mistakes but I can see they focus more on getting ideas out of the child instead of his grammar. There was a particular assignment where the teacher specifically wrote to tell parents not to help the child to write or correct his grammar and content as kids at their age has their own lingual and we should let it run. I guess the reason I am not seeing a massive improvement on his sentence construction/ grammar is probably due to this. His vocabulary and public speaking skills are great. Thanks to BC with their regular show and tell sessions where children are required to present their ideas in 5 sentences about their favourite toy/food and etc. While as an anxious/ kiasu parent who wants to see good grades in his tests, on the contrary, after reading so much about the techniques that some top rated enrichment centers adopt, I kinda fall back in favor of BC's way of teaching, to build structure, cultivate the habit of reading. The more books you read and talked about, creativity and ideas flow naturally. Building public speaking confidence. It seems like a slow process but the curriculum focuses on the foundation to appreciate the language instead of standard textbook answers. I am a confused parent now lol. But will appreciate if anyone can share what are the things they do in BC Primary 2 English Class will be of much help to me.

      Thanks.

What does BC stands for? is it British Council? If yes, most of friends dropped off after some time as they found that it was not really relevant to what they study in school or maybe parents expectatin was high. I am unable to comment further as my gal did not join British Council.

Yes Bristish Council. Any other recommendations? I plan to go through a few this week before deciding which to enroll.

      Hello mummies,

I was planning to check out Mind Stretcher English programmes for P2. My boy had his English enrichment with British Council from K2 - P1.
Wanted a change because I noticed my boy’s grammar seems a little weak. His reading, presentation skills and vocabulary is strong. But I find that his grammar is a little weak. I am not saying that British Council is not good. In fact, they had trained him to speak confidently because they have show and tell every week. So he scored well for his show and tell during P1. They focus a lot on vocabulary building too but I just felt they are less academic and wanted my son to have some form of training into the drilling of proper sentence construction, grammar because he is P2 this year. Sigh, but after reading the reviews about MS here, I am at a loss now. Not sure where else should I look out for. Anyone can recommend a few so I can check them out? Was thinking of Morris Allen. Any comments?

    • RE: All About Primary Schools' Balloting History

      Hi,

I’m keen to find out the balloting history in 2011.
The school of my choice definitely has balloting in Phase 2B last year looking at the respective chart. Just needed to know whether the balloting occured for those living within 1km, 1-2 km or more than 2 km.

Please advise where I can find that.
      Thanks
