I believe the surveyor asked only the HR. How on earth will the HR know the exact people work from home?
HR encourage the employee but your supervisor discourage you in their HEART!!!

RE: Pat's Schoolhouse
arielle08:
Hi Glorymum,
You mean Patricia will be totally out from the Pat's group? KU will be in full control now? This is worrying...
Noticed that Pat's standard has been dropping, or rather, the rest of the childcare has caught up while Pat's is not making progress.
Be it english or chinese, I realised that the kids from My first Skools are much faster.
My neighbour showed me her son's worksheets from school and they are alot more difficult than what Pat's teaching.
For example, my neighbour's son who is same age as my gal, already learn how to write 灯, and when i asked my gal to read that word, she told me she never seen before!! And in Pat's she is still learning basic strokes.
As for phonics, the school has already teach them enough to be able to read simple books themselves!
Checked with another 2 friends whose children are in different My First Skools and their reading and writing skills are indeed better.
Anyone did any comparision with other schools? I dont expect Pat's to be more advance than other schools but it has to be on par, at least. Really hope that next year, the K1 syllabus will be comprehensive enough to catch up with the rest.
Pat's Schoolhouse don't really emphasize academy but instead more of childhood experience with friends and with their programme.
I never expect Pat's Schoolhouse to give those higher level of education which prepare more than what is required for P1. I want my kids to enjoy their childhood. However, one thing for sure is that both my kids are very vocal and confident when socialize with new friends of their age. -
RE: GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection

sorry I mean 31 go into round 2.
:congrats:
Woah!may I know which school is your DS in?
Am I right that your DS class is in one of the top classes?
There are school stream them in P2 into good classes in P3.
This could be the reason why there are 31; 75% of the class. -
RE: MOE to scrap Banding for Secondary Schools
I think the MOE is too reactive over by one or two people comments.
First, it was the P1 screening and later Secondary school banding.
Why don’t take out the entry requirement for the universities, that will solve every parent woe and have unlimited vacancies for all courses. We can choose we want to do; not constraints by the entry points.
Because there is an entry requirement into the university, we have "A" level. It is because of "A" level, we need to make sure our kids do well in their exam and get to a decent course of choice. Because of all these, we need to have a competitive environment to put them into test.
An iron sharpens another iron. I can’t imagine a wood sharpens an iron but I don’t mind a diamond sharpens an iron. -
RE: Why screen kids in P1?
RRMummy:
What if P3 GEP requires P1 data when it comes to selection?ah chey..verdict out ah....
i just got a chance to read this thread today...and as i was reading...a conspiracy light lit up...
Maybe at P1 first checkpoint on IQ, then at P3, second checkpoint... after second checkpoint, can determine if our lower primary Education can improve IQ or not.. If can, how much, and effectiveness...bla bla bla..
:siam:
MOE probably need to match to see if that child is really gifted.
I rather the kids innocently take the IQ test without parents knowledge. -
RE: Why screen kids in P1?
Chenonceau:
Huh? Is it optional? Sorry... I must be very slow today. I don't understand your thought process. Would you be kind enough to explain?edtan:
What if MOE make IQ test an optional for P1 kids to take?
This will cause a great stress again to the parents...... thanks to Chen.
Parents will start to prepare their kids for such IQ test even as early as 4 yrs old and so on.........sometimes no need to broadcast publicly.
If MOE make IQ test at P1 an optional, don't you think you will opt to take the test for the fear this IQ test will be part of the selection critieria in future program.
WHAT IF...MOE make it optional after this.
If MOE really need the data, they will make the test an optional to take.
Sorry to confuse you..... -

RE: Pat's Schoolhouse
I would suggest that you go down personnally look at the centre, talk to the principal, the teachers (if possible) etc. You should be able to get a good feel of what you want.
