I thought it's a common practice to allow parents during schooling hours. Seems like my 3 days of leave are going to waste. Staff/ volunteers were trying their best to shoo parents away on the 1st morning. I think it should had been made know earlier, knowing that it was a practice in the past (before single session) & at some other schools.

I returned at noon to complete the stationary/ book list purchases & wanted to order food at the canteen; but was refused as the school has a policy prohibiting parents from congregating in school. This I understand, but should exercise some flexibility on the first day as some parents will be around for admin purposes.
Also I notice my child's class watching Mr Bean & to & Jerry cartoons just before dismissal. I've weaned my child of T&J cartoons as it imparted silly behaviour when he was younger. I have an argument with him over the weekend when he insisted on watching them again (saying that his teacher allowed so in school).
I also just deciphered the abbreviations in the time-table; e.g. PAL took me some time to find out online). Oh yes, Perseverance is a mouth-full (5 syllabus), at least its the only one beginning with P.
b0bafett - is your child in 1P too?

      Hi mummies of P1s,

My child's going to P2 in a few days' time.

Sharing with you based on this year's first 3 days of school.

      1) there will be parent volunteers in every class to assist teachers. (I'm one of them)

      2) you can bring all the books to school in batches in the first week (if too heavy to bring all at once), label all with your child's and class' name. The FT will keep all books in the class, except for a few to bring everyday.

      3) the school provided Milo and buns on first 3days, students had them in the class. For next year I'm not sure. You can prepare lunch box for your kids too.

      4) parents likely will receive letter from school on info about drop off and pick up time. It's the first time the school's operating one session, hence give them time to fine tune it.

      Cheers! ๐Ÿ˜„
thank you! This is definitely helpful!

This means last year you also just dropped your child off at the school gate on the first day?

We can get through this! If only our kids were in the same class, we could then attach them together... hahaha...

If you intend to buy the books, go earlier. When I reached at 10am on Friday, there were about 15 people in the queue in front of me, and I waited 2 hours. I know a lot of parents were put off by the queue and said 'we come back on Monday instead'. Maybe you can help to ask more about the first day of school? The lady at the office (Chinese lady in her 50s?) really wasn't very clear on what would be going on... ๐Ÿ˜“

Oh wow. I'm quite anxious about being shut out like that. M/f is 1:45, but if you drive they said wait until 30 min later, so 2:15pm.

I realize this is overkill, but are you getting your kids phones? Where parents are so unwelcome I've been thinking she might benefit from a phone so I can text her what time I'll pick her up and where to be. (Like maybe have her go to the side gate? I don't know).

      I've pm'd my cell too.
I figure they are doing the CC method - cut the parent off from the very first day, and let the kids take over. For me, the faster she gains independence the better. My girl did share with me she is nervous about things like buying food, but I intend to pack a lunch box for her, and have told her to observe others, or ask any nearby adults if she needs help.

I won't be getting her a phone, but will designate a pick up corner where the security guard is to drop off and pick her up. I will also give her my mobile (and attach it to her) so she can contact us if anything crops up. The rest... I will leave up to fate

    • RE: Do you think our SPF are too weak?

IMHO - at this time and age where social media is rampant and people are fond of having a go at everything under the sun, I would think all govt related agencies will think twice (always) about anything they say or do, because even a very inconsequential comment or action will turn into a media circus or subject themselves to being sued from every corner.

Given that the police were in such an open area, I think they would have had a really good reason to handcuff the person, be it super young or super old. To my understanding, a person can be handcuffed not just because of potential violence etc, but can also be done if they make a judgement call that the person may cause harm onto themselves. Imagine if the boy, in his haste to break free had run out onto the main road and caused terrible injuries to himself or the even result in death. They were near a very busy road junction.

      my 3 cents.

hi e-r-mom!!! yeah! one more person to the group!

The Chinese books are out, but only for 1A set, and the flashcards we still need to wait. I got them on Fri, but had to wait 2hrs for them ๐Ÿ˜“ when I left there were a LOT of people behind me in the queue.

The bookshop lady mentioned that we can actually let the children buy the books on their own when school reopens, because they give priority to the kids even if parents are there in the queue. The total cost for those 4 books are about $15.

I checked with the lady at the office, she just said - bring the kids at 7.15am. We aren't allowed into the school, the 'seniors' will be at the gate to bring the little ones in. We pick them up after school at 1.45pm (as per timetable)

I also asked her what to bring - she said 'everything'. THAT is a LOT of books!!! She did mention we don't have to bring all, just bring some (the teachers will be asking them to leave quite a bit of things in school). Any books they are short of they can bring it into school the following few days.

I'm not sure how accurate her information is (she couldn't tell me if the pick up time for Friday would be 1.45pm or 1.15pm, that worries me). I intend to ask any teachers that will be milling around at the gate on the first day... :boogie:

Anyone sign up for Kids Excel?

This thread is quiet. Anyone would like to \"report in\" so that we could form a better network?
My girl is 1 Perseverance (SO HARD TO SPELL!!)... I think it just might end up as the 2 of us chatting. *lol*

      Hi BaconEgg,

what class is your child in? Mine will be in 1P next year!

I need your help! I was not able to attend the Orientation on 15 (my girl was having graduation). I have gone to collect the Parentโ€™s Handbook and booklist (and bought the books, no queue!). Did they mention anything about what to expect on the first day of school? (or do the experienced parents remember?)

      Thanks!!
