= 4a^2 - (b^2 + 2bc - c^2)

Note again (A^2 - B^2) = (A+B)(A-B)
= [4a + (b + c)][4a - (b + c)]
= (4a + b + c)(4a - b - c) .... Ans

(ii) answer should be (2a+b+c)(2a-b-c). careless mistake.

The S1 posting system goes by Merit. If both you and another candidate score 238, and you put FMSS as your 2nd choice and she as her first choice, the system will drill down to the decimal points and see which one of you ranks higher.

Eg. If you put FMSS as your 2nd choice but your score is say, 238.99945, and hers is 238.123545, you will still get FMSS altho she put hers as 1st. If there is another competing candidate who put FMSS as her 4th choice, but scored 240, she will get it before either of you, cos her T-score is higher although she put FMSS as 4th choice.

However, the sequencing of schools MAY affect your chances if you need to appeal. Some schools prefer it if you indicate them as your first choice, but to others, it doesn't matter.

My DS had his P1~P4 schooling in China. We sent him to variety of Maths Olympiad training courses. The parent were encouraged to sit in the classroom together with their little ones so that they can help little ones in review. As a responsive father I never missed a single class so I have full set of training materials. I even was thinking of being a part-time tutor in creative-thinking, problem-solving.


The training courses my DS attended did pay themselves. He did very well in maths after he joined P5 2 years ago. He got an A* for maths in 2013 PSLE and his T-score is 257+3.

Chances are very high. It still depends on how the pupils scoring higher apply their next learning institute. Put in this way: if those pupils ranking higher than your daughter all apply for RGS, you know what will happen...
