This year, 2020 -
1) Total (in Term 1 to Term 4),
how many Sec 1 zuowen pieces have your Chinese laoshi asked u to write in class so far, in this one whole year ?
Are you from bu-hua or gao-hua ?
2) Total,
how many Sec 1 English composition essays (Not those email type, but full descriptive Narrative full length essay),
have your English class Tr asked you to write, throughout this entire one whole year ?
Hi! Sorry I couldn't reply before the deadline of submission of schools haha!
For the first question, my Chinese Laoshi have given my class 7 compositions this year. (Excluding the emails) I am from bu-hua. I would like to inform you that my school does not offer gao-hua. Maybe you can ask the school if your child can go to another school after school to take gao-hua lessons!
For the second question, my English Tchr encourages my class to write Discursive Writing instead of Narrative Writing. So, in terms of forcing us to write narrative, it would be only one. (My WA1) In terms of opportunity to write narrative, it would be two. (WA1 and EOY). Sorry, we've never had a practice for Narrative, but we have multiple practices for Discursive.
Any further questions, please feel free to ask me! Once again, I apologise for not responding before the deadline!
Hi Error,
Thank you very much, for your kind info. Much Appreciated
Compassvale this school, is very good already, given 7 Zuowen essays to write.
Some more,
in this covid-19 infected year where studies became disrupted due to \"Circuit breaker\" kick-off in April and students are \"forced\" to go HBL (home-based learning), seven pieces of writing zuowen is considered very good,
because
my friend daughter's school (from another Secondary school), the whole year round this year 2021 Sec 1, from January until October Total four Term, her class laoshi gave her class Total only two zuowen to write, miserable ! Clearly, her laoshi not doing a proper job
To me, not acceptable because how can inside one entire whole year, gave the Sec 1s only two zuowen to write ? Yet, it happened.
Besides,
her class laoshi also can't be bothered with marking their \"li jie wen da\" answers
It seems that in primary school P5 & P6 when preparing for Psle, the school Chinese Teachers are very on. But when come to Secondary school, many laoshi seem to be lazy, a far cry from primary school laoshi ! A very big difference, between how Chinese is taught in primary vs. Secondary schools[/quote]Glad I could help! The Chinese Department gives a lot of homework! It could be beneficial or really stressful and tiring depending on the student. For me, I find it very annoying and exhausting to do but I believe it is because I hate and am bad at Chinese haha!
My holidays homework (Both for May and Nov-Dec Hol) is for me to read 3 articles from newspapers and write a minimum amount of words on a summary of these articles and my thoughts on it each. So the department really encourages us to read and write!
It's very disappointing to know some schools under-prepare their students. So relieved to know Compassvale really invest a lot of resources to not only Chinese but also in Maths and Sciences! And the teachers are very open to questions! Half of the school days I ask Math questions (Out of Syllabus because I love Math and have a huge curiosity in it) to my teacher and he stills answers it even if it's out of syllabus!
Please note that I also have a fair share of bad teachers, but not all schools are perfect haha! Even RI or HCI have their own good and bad teachers! And also note that the number of compos they give may differ from cohort to cohort but I think it should only be in a 2 compos difference.
Any questions on the schools, or secondary school life in general (Subjects, Textbooks, etc.), feel free to ask me! I am always happy to clear them!
