Champion:I was looking at West Grove's historical data and indeed the oversubscriptions are rather high, but seems, with the new schools in the neighbourhood, somewhat bring down these numbers in recent years. In fact, the APP rate for West Grove is lower than Westwood this year.
Hi! we wanted to register at West Grove Pri back in Y2009 also less than 1km from our home. If I remember correctly, it was 3 persons vying for 1 seats- something like 355 applicants for 107 vacancies for Phase 2C.
Just my humble opinion, if you are less than 1km from westwood and your child is a SC then perhaps you can go for the balloting first and put CPS as P2CS. Judging from the registering number as of yesterday, i think CPS will still have vacancies at P2CS.
For me, I am the type who is more the pro-active parent - I will drop e-mail to the FT on the 1st week of school to \"introduce\" myself first. Usually I will keep my updates with the FT or MT teachers via e-mails if I have any concerns. My DD2's FT does give them her mobile number but I won't message them unless it is extremely urgent.
Both my DDs's classmates are a mixture of SC, PR and foreigners but they have no problem communicating and learning together. In fact, I am surprised that my P2 DD2 able to tell me about her Philippines classmate cultures.
I am not sure about the school's PSG but it is definitely encouraging to have more parents to join in whichever school your DS will be studying in.
I wish you all the best in your registering and enjoy the primary school learning journey with your DS.
Cheers!
CPS's numbers for recent years also seem to improve too! Vacancies for P2CS shrank over recent years as well.
We are within 1km from Westwood, West Grove & CPS. Gona try call the schools later to see if I can obtain a breakdown on numbers.
Not too bad idea to have foreigners actually. In fact, I was from a secondary school that had plenty of Indo Chinese & Malaysian students and we are still in contact till now.
