Hi! we wanted to register at West Grove Pri back in Y2009 also less than 1km from our home. If I remember correctly, it was 3 persons vying for 1 seats- something like 355 applicants for 107 vacancies for Phase 2C.

Just my humble opinion, if you are less than 1km from westwood and your child is a SC then perhaps you can go for the balloting first and put CPS as P2CS. Judging from the registering number as of yesterday, i think CPS will still have vacancies at P2CS.

For me, I am the type who is more the pro-active parent - I will drop e-mail to the FT on the 1st week of school to \"introduce\" myself first. Usually I will keep my updates with the FT or MT teachers via e-mails if I have any concerns. My DD2's FT does give them her mobile number but I won't message them unless it is extremely urgent.

Both my DDs's classmates are a mixture of SC, PR and foreigners but they have no problem communicating and learning together. In fact, I am surprised that my P2 DD2 able to tell me about her Philippines classmate cultures.

I am not sure about the school's PSG but it is definitely encouraging to have more parents to join in whichever school your DS will be studying in.

I wish you all the best in your registering and enjoy the primary school learning journey with your DS.

      Cheers!
I was looking at West Grove's historical data and indeed the oversubscriptions are rather high, but seems, with the new schools in the neighbourhood, somewhat bring down these numbers in recent years. In fact, the APP rate for West Grove is lower than Westwood this year.

CPS's numbers for recent years also seem to improve too! Vacancies for P2CS shrank over recent years as well.

We are within 1km from Westwood, West Grove & CPS. Gona try call the schools later to see if I can obtain a breakdown on numbers.

Not too bad idea to have foreigners actually. In fact, I was from a secondary school that had plenty of Indo Chinese & Malaysian students and we are still in contact till now.

Hi mummie, I wld like to consider Corporation as an option. However, wld like to check with mummies here why did u choose Corporation over the rest of Jurong West schools?? Hope to hear some feedback soon soon. Thanks so much!!

Hi! Ok, I just share a little here and hope that it helps with your decision (I assume) for considering CPS as your back-up plan.

My 2 DDs are with CPS - one in P5 and one in P2. CPS was not my 1st choice way back in Y2008 registration for P1 2009. I was balloted out of my 1st choice of school. Then checking on distance, the nearest to home will be CPS - 0.5km, 1 bus-stop away. As I am a FTWM, I have to find a school near home.

I have zero ideas of CPS - only to find out the location (which initially find it a bit out of the way as there is no shelter coverwalk way from the nearest bus-stop to the school compound). Nevertheless, DH and myself decided to register under P2C and was pleased to find out that it is a single-session school.

In term of the curriculum, I would say it prepares the student adequately. I am more interested that my children be an \"all-rounded\", ie they learn more than just the books for exam purposes. And I am glad to say that both of them enjoy their school-life a lot. Both of them are blessed with caring and dedicated teachers these few years, except for DD2 who has a little \"mishap\" of the P2 FT in term one being constantly on medical leave or MIA  But since Term Two, they have gotten a new FT and my DD2 continues to learn in a conducive environment.

You may like to visit the school website to find out more about their curriculum, CCA and other news. Oh Yes, to add on, I must say that the prinicipal Mdm Vimi is a very hands-on lady whom is always ready to support the teachers and kids. I only met her personally twice - once during my DD1's CCA outdoor performance and the other is during the parents-teachers- meeting.

Above just my little experience of how my two kids are doing. Overall, I must contented as long as they are happy and enjoy school. Time flies, next year my DD1 will be in P6 and graduating from the school. I know she will definitely remember all that she has learned and cherished from CPS.

wow! Thanks Champion for your real speedy reply :rahrah:

Just curious, which school were u planning for P1 2009 then? What are the numbers of applications over vacancies? ballot for < 1km?

For me, we wanted Westwood, but as of yday, there were 251 applications over 207. Wondering, if I shld proceed for ballot??

For CPS, are there a lot of PRs or foreign students there? How are the parent-teacher interaction? I heard from elsewhere that parents are not very active in CPS. Is it true? I'm a SAHM, so, I'll be keen to join the Parent Support Group in whichever school that my DS can enroll.

      Hi Adave,

So far, it's a good experiences for my daughter to be in Westwood Primary (WWPS) despite all new environment. The Principle also good and very humble guy. Academic wise, so far good and they offer a lot of enrichment classes after school hours so its up to you to choose.

      Cheers!
      Dee` :xedfingers:

Good to hear positive feedback about the school. 🙂

What kind of enrichment classes do they have? Are these enrichment classes payable?
