      (Secondary school + Junior College) are still important, whichever rank you are at, or whichever year you are in,

      Because in the \"government\" sector, paper qualifications \"talk\" loudly .

      But,
      if you work in the \" private \" sector, only for the very first maiden job immediately right after your University graduation,
      ie. When you are a fresh graduate,
      then (Secondary school + JC) are important.

      But subsequently,
      after you have changed job to (2nd or 3rd or 4th job, etc), Secondary school / JC not important anymore because direct relevant working experience counts more, takes precedence.
      I disagree. I had a boss (private company) who told us that he'll only hire graduates from certain universities & he'll look at the candidates' secondary schools & JCs. Not sure abt primary schools though 😓

      I'm curious. Would you still get priority in Phase 2A of the P1 registration process?
      I believe NYK is not affiliated to NYPS thus a kid who has attended NKY does not qualify for Phase 2A of the P1 registration (for NYPS).

      Thanks, v happy got experienced parents here to give advice.

      My kid wants to do triple science (interested in comp engineering), but dont know which 2nd humanities to take. IH compulsory, so pair w pure History, Geog or Malay? She loves Geog, but don't want to do fieldwork. She doesnt like HI too much, but still gets decent score, is it v heavy to do HI with triple science? She likes Malay.
      taking 9 subjects is tough, regardless which combination/ which 2nd humanities she's taking.
      but if your daughter is interested & capable, why don't you trust her & let her try?

      Sorry to ride on this qn. How easy is it to drop the 9th subject in NYGH, for eg. In middle of or end of Sec 3?

      Entry into special programmes is not guaranteed?
      taking 9 subjects is def not easy. lessons will end about 5pm on days.
      you can only drop the 9th subject end of sec 3.

      At end of Year 2 streaming exercise,
      how are the Year 3 classes organized? Is it

      1a) all those taking Total 8 subjects form one class (X),

      1b) all those taking Total 9 subjects form another class (Y),

      1c) all those taking Total 10 subjects form another class (Z) ?

      1d) all those taking Total (9 or 10) subjects, are placed together into the same Year 3 class,

      because

      not so many Year 3 students are found taking Total 10 subjects, hence unable to form one class by itself ?
      The girls are allowed to take different combinations of subjects.

      Except for one HP class & one SIP class, the other classes are mixed with students taking 8 subjects/ 9 subjects (with different subjects)/ advance subjects/ 3rd language, etc. There is no clear differentiation like 8 subject class/ 9 subject class etc. For eg. 1 class can be made up of students doing triple science, or 2 sciences & geo/& history/& literature, advance sci.

      Yes, I cannot prove it as I do not have the book to show. I still find affiliation is not good for a meritocratic society.

      Like I said, value add will only show up if no one goes for external tuition. This means the school is really adding value by the teachers. The small difference in mean does not help at all. I have already said, there significant students from RI/HCI attending tuitions to either secure their preferred grades or to pull up their grades. What value add does the school provide if it is just grades? These students from RI/HCI can go to any school and still produce good results especially if they go for external tuition.
      not sure what book you were referring to. but my daughter was from NYPS & I can confirm the affilitation COP to NYGH is 250 & never 240 as you have mentioned.
      P/S: this was t-score era, not sure about the affiliation COP under the new system.

      As a parent, I share your concerns. Like parents said we won't know our chances because its beyond our control. I would also add some more perspectives but its my opinion so take it w a pinch of salt ok.
      Depending on what talent area your WL is so your chances vary. I assume its academic based on your post. If dsa maths, I feel WL has a high chance of conversion since the same CO girls may also be offered NUSH and RGS as well. I feel that those who are serious in maths generally will choose NUSH or even RGS over NYGH. For dsa science, well its a tussle between RGS and NYGH so I would say high chance as well. For bilingualism or innovation, I think girls don't have better choiced schools out there so most will likely take up the CO.
      Hope this helps.

      I think many parents have hear-say, it doesn't work this way. as in, your WL conversion rate DOES NOT depend on how many CO(s) is/are rejected in the same domain, cos all WL are ranked together.
      eg. total 100 COs rejected (regardless of sports/ academics), the rank #1-#100 WL will be converted to CO

      yes, i do understand still need to depend on psle score to enter DD's desired school, and not count on any WLs.
      in fact, there was this insightful post i found regarding how schools manage their list of all COs and WLs. they rank the COs and WLs across all domains and i supposed its true certain sports/ aesthetics candidates will be preferred over academic domains, cos academic ones you can have talented girls entering from PSLE scores.

      Am just curious as to the conversion rate for nygh.
      in fact, have not come across any other classmates of DD being offered a WL to nygh....CO only 1 i know of. 4-5 Shorlisted candidates for each academic domain from her pri school....
      anyone else can share if they have gotten any WL/COs...?
      it seems like previous years, i read that there were many more COs/WLs on the forums...just wondering if different this year?

      Firstly, the number of COs each year is almost the same. You don't hear it in this forum, doesn't mean there are fewer COs offered.

      Secondly, what's the conversion rate from WL to CO ? Your guess is as good as mine or his or hers.
      - Nobody knows how many WLs are given out
      - Nobody knows the ranking of your WL among all WLs
      - Nobody knows how many COs will be accepted & how many will be rejected

      If you really want a % of conversion rate, I'll say it's 50% :siam:

      Unless you are a marker yourself, or have intimate or personal knowledge of how the papers are being marked, these are the kind of irresponsible comments that deserved no credit (and I can tell you, it’s wrong).

      The rest of the posts are not worth any further mention.

      I have the same thinking as you. Anyway, what the markers award in the papers are either 1-mark, 2-marks or 1/2 mark. So the total for the paper should be either round numbers, or rouded up if there's 0.5.

      This is not the same as what you are seeing in report books now. What you see in report books are the total for the year, ie/ eg. 10% for CA1, 30% for SA1, 10% for CA2 & 50% SA2, this will give you various decimal places 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6, 0.7 , 0.8, 0.9 .... or even up to 2 decimal places. This shouldn't happen in a full PSLE paper.

      Anyway, you will never know your raw score as you'll only know your AL score when you receive your PSLE result slip, so why the need to dwell on the decimal places?? 🤷
