      Hiaweh:

The option to compensate them for their off days is whether the employer need them or not on their off days. If not I don't see y employers should compensate even if employer willing to give off days.

I am confuse about situation whereby my help want to stay home and work, and I want her to go out and play. What is the guideline?

Some maids want to earn more and are willing to stay home and work while some are afraid to go out.

Ultimately, in the beginning you need to specify the total salary that you are giving.

    • RE: Facebook & maid

Some are inclined to use facebook as they are IT savvy. Like those from myanmar, whose IT knowledge is not as advanced.

We are trying to get her to rectify the sloppy chores as much as we can though it can be quite impossible to check on her duties all the time. It's really now or never, so I rather put up with her expected black face but still get her to do it properly. I even demonstrated myself fo show her how to do it. I can't imagine closing one eye now, by 6mths later, it will be horrible.

Just need to spot check, do not need to keep all your attention to her. Normally, the maid will know how to do. Demonstration is just making it easier for her to manipulate you. Even if you do demonstration it should be a small part or area. As much as possible just give verbal instructions.

If the maid is starting to cut corners, just ask her to repeat her specific chore until she get it right. Once you allow her to get away with it, it will happen again and again and forever again. Just need to make sure she understands your quality chores.

Of course, there are some who are naturally slow.

As for forgetfulness, you can always get your maid to make a check list and list down the things that she needs to do. Some are simply giving excuses and doing it slowly. However, if any rectification needs to be done, it has to be done early

Hi fcmaid...yes, language can be trained, but I am a working mother, 2 kids under age 5 at home with maid alone during day time.

Communication is already an issue, how to have a good chat with her? :<
If your kids can speak to her, your maid should be able to pick up until their level at least.

My own personal maid can speak english, mandarin and hokkien.

My family speaks to her in different languages so she is able to pick it up.

Sometimes they are conscious of speaking and creating a certain fear that they might be ridicule because of the words they wrongly uses.

Language can be trained. It really depends how often you communicate with her.

Some will ask for laptop and internet access. Ultimately, need to see the requirement and the willingness

Nowadays the helper cannot go without handphone.

Whenever I go around our housing estate, 3/4 of the helpers will always be on the handphone yakking all the way.
Ever since we allow our helper to own a handphone, most of the time she will lock herself in the bathroom for at least 20mins.
I don't mind giving her the freedom she want but I emphasize in discipline & self-control.
I just applied phone lock with Singtel for our home phone, hopefully this may knock some sense to her nonsense.
There are still some whom are willing to go without handphones. However, it needs to be mentioned before they even start.
