Tough Cookie:
May I ask how late do your girls sleep every night ? When my dd was in year 1, her sleeping time was constantly a subject of disagreement between us. I always wonder what percentage of her sleeping late habit is due to RGS culture and what percentage is owing to their teenage years ( some say teenage brains are not structured to sleep early??!!)

it depends on time management I guess! this year the earliest I've slept is 5pm and the latest 3am. but generally I sleep between 12-1! my parents used to argue with me over this but I guess after a while they got used to it? to be honest sometimes it isn't about the workload I mean we do sidetrack and all but I guess I would characterise my teenage years with all those late night talks where people just confess it all and you have honest conversations... I don't exactly have any regrets sleeping late other than the next morning waking up. after all you're only young once! I know such a viewpoint is controversial with parents so yea just trying to give your daughter's POV ><
what does the conditional offer mean? what normally the conditions are?

Since the offers are made before the 'A' levels, the conditions will usually be a certain no. and quality of 'A' level grades. I have no idea what the conditions made by the various universities are these days, but long ago (in the 80s), some Oxbridge conditional offers were for 2 E's at 'A' level! I suspect they are higher now.

Just last year, one conditional offer case was based on AAA grade for 3 H2 subjects.
I know of seniors whose conditional offers are 4 H2 As, or a Distinction in their H3 šŸ™‚

Oh dear..... IT related stuff is 'sian'?
Hopefully, the lessons will get more interesting soon. :rahrah:

For DD's class, they've just been doing RGS worksheets, some group work & projects for various subjects this term.

Yr 1 will only attend the 1:1 briefing on the 29 Feb so I guess once all the Macbooks are configured to sch's requirements, they'll probably start using the Macbook next term.
It will be interesting to see how learning is done through 1:1.

i just teased my Gal today,
\"Once U ALL have your Macbook, T can Teach in Front,
And U ALL Can Open tab to Browse, Play, ....\"

\"No, Cannot-la, T will Walk Around ....
But, Wait .... Some T Don't!
Hmmmmmmmmm ....\"
šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‰

haha I think its just like, for the past 3 years in RGS we've already gotten used to paper handouts and doing not doing work online? All the new platforms- acelearning, moodle, new moodle, inet, edmodo, google groups/google docs, I guess it takes some time getting used to? I believe that to the Sec 1s, they will find it fun and all but for us, as we've already experienced what its like without using IT for lessons and its quite weird to have to change midway so we don't entirely enjoy it...

friendship:
At Y4, is RGS term ends in June? and the students will attach to companies?

Is there a real case that a student who scores GPA 2.8 was asked to transfer to other school?
No that applies only to RI. We have school until November just like all levels and have to take exams in September.

That case is false. In general, the school will counsel those students w GPA below 2.8/ ask them join structured studies in Year 3/4. It really depends on the situation. As a last resort, retention is used.

Hi,

Just looked at the sch calendar and noticed that the Yr 1 gals are scheduled for 'Maths Exploration Day' (MED) on Monday & Tuesday of the March holidays; and Community First Aid (CFA) & CPR courses from Tuesdays to Fridays of the March holidays.

Any seniors or experienced mummies know if it's compulsory for the gals to attend 2 days of MED plus 4 days of CFA & CPR?
Or they just need to attend 1 day of MED & 1 day of CFA & CPR, depending on class allocation?

Thanks. šŸ˜‚
For CFA & CPR, you only need to attend one day. As for Math Exploration Day, it is an extension of Math Active Day (MAD) held during Learning Journey week. The top 20 (I'm not too sure about the number) groups from all the games exhibited during MAD (every student is required to form groups to do one game related to Math) will be selected for MED where they will be exhibited alongside other schools for primary school children to play šŸ™‚

At least, this is if they haven't changed from my time.

With regards to CCA trials, (sorry for bringing it up and I've been really inactive haha busy with school) every UG has their own way of grading their interviewees. The criteria is set based on discussion with the teacher ICs and is largely impartial- it doesn't really matter if your sister is the chair or not, I think we need to place our faith in the system and just accept the results.

If we ourselves cannot put faith into the integrity of this whole selection process, then where does that leave us at? Living with grudges and complaints. Why don't we just all embrace life and everything that comes with it! šŸ˜„

To the juniors out there and myself as well: We haven't experienced it all, remember your troubles, all the trials and tribulations come to naught in the real world, and I guess just be grateful to be in RGS? šŸ™‚ I guess we need to wake up and mature- stop living in the bubble environment of RGS because out there, its so much tougher.

Think about it- to get into RI (JC), all we have to do is get a 2.0 GPA. Of course that's not desirable but the bare requisite right? Yet for a JAE to get into RI (JC), not only does he/she need to get a perfect 6 points, but also excel in HMT and CCA. They work so much harder than us to get that coveted place and here we are, complaining about the CCA system.

To be honest if anything, I've learnt so much from all my friends outside school because they offer me a glimpse of what their school life is like, and how grateful I should be for everything RGS has given us šŸ™‚

I think one thing that has not really been communicated to the Year 1s is that all of us has gone through it- in Year 1, all the school events are spent in the KS Chee watching the live feed due to a lack of space, Year 2-3 spent watching from above the amphi- either outside D block classrooms or Koi Pond or outside the hall, and only when you get to Year 4 or sometimes in Year 3 do you get to sit at the amphitheatre šŸ™‚

With regards to SLI, schools present include (this isn't the full list) RI, RI (JC), ACS (I), ACS (Barker Road), NYGH, HCI, Crescent, Cedar, Whitley, Bishan Park, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian and MGS.

Could be A Matter of Diff Perspective -le ....
Dunno about Drama Club, but ....
Her Fren says the Seniors Make them Feel So Small and Left Out, When They R Not Even Allowed to Go into the Red Cross Room When they Go For Trial, And Also Dunno Why So .... 🤷 🤷
yep I guess its different perspective- a lot of times we also experienced the same thing as Year 1s but we weren't as vocal (not to sure about this, depends on individual too I guess) about the so called \"discrimination\"?

hmm about the not entering the Red Cross room thing- maybe you'd consider as a CCA's \"traditions\"? I know the school mentioned before about how you aren't supposed to bully juniors and all, but sometimes its about upholding of the CCA's traditions la. I don't think its our intention to make juniors feel small and left out, but especially so in Uniformed Groups, I seek Year 1s understanding that there has to be a certain form of hierarchy and discipline for a Uniform Group to function.

For one, I am pretty sure that in other schools, the Year 1s in UGs are treated much much worse so I believe its all about perspective and well, don't grumble la?

I'm sure that when the Year 1s reach Year 4, they will subconsciously act as they deem us to act now... Just want to apologise on behalf of my batch if we've done anything wrong.

hi year 1 parents! šŸ™‚

being a senior (Year 4) myself, I just wanted to say that... my batches' impression of the Year 1s is not exactly good, but we're hoping that they will mature over time!

I guess the RGS experience really allows you to learn a lot, and to mature and hopefully your DDs will experience the same thing.

and yes like what VALyap said \"also fren feedback from Drama, some yr 1s' behavior not up to mark, some seniors mentioned they are being impolite . just sharing\"

I don't think this was the case of just Drama, many of my friends have various complaints towards the attitude of the Year 1s such as that they are overly demanding and \"act like the queen of the school\" and talk back quite a bit, just to give a rough idea of what we feel. We understand that we are not supposed to exert authority or \"bully\" the Year 1s based on our seniority, but really what we are asking for is just basic human respect, because people do make mistakes- there are communication breakdowns, and most of all, please just don't assume everyone owes you a living.

With regards to CCA- hope all your DDs can get into their desired CCAs, but if they can't, please ask them to go into their \"assigned\" CCA with an open mind alright! I can say that I definitely wasn't assigned into an ideal CCA, but over time still I grew to love it and I have no regrets now šŸ™‚ I know that may people do not want to join UGs but that is really where the bulk of learning takes place so yea some food for thought~
