Morning everyone,
May I check if there is a parents WhatsApp group chat for secondary one starting in 2024? If yes, can you please share with me?
Thank you in advance.

We chose the school when taking into account of our child's inclination and we want a more holistic education for her, not only academic focus and definitely not through drilling/assessments.
We like the school for it's stance on some basic discipline such as punctuality and mobile uses are prohibited in school to be kept in lockers. The girls in school are not dull, always lively (some are so full of energy) and enjoying life, I always see. So cute to see the little girls in oversized attire in school now and then, those in pri school are in same sch compound. So far my girl enjoys school so much she said she likes the school better than the 6 years in pri school (she was in sec 1 then only) which surprises us as she had a great time in pri school too. She has no complain about the teachers. Of course there are less preferences for those teachers who are stricter and more naggy...lol.. in general this mummy has no complain. Thankfully she is doing well in studies too. School has after school remedial classes for main subjects for those who need. I like that the support is available from term 2 (earlier on instead of year end) instead of telling parents to seek tuition though mine has no need so far. One adv of smaller class size (30-32) I guess. I like that the teachers take PE, music and Art lessons seriously. My girl is not the sporty type but now she is more active in ball games and enjoys the different sports including yearly one term of swimming. her experience in pri school PE lessons often were the class will skip PE and stay in class to do health education. Now she gets gold in NAPFA, while she failed in pri school. Music lessons are really producing music/ perform in small group which she is benefiting where private indiv music lessons cannot provide. Art is her most fav subj even though she has zero art related enrichment before. Taking non-academic aspects as seriously and not doing for sake of doing only. I also like that, the parents are v chill from what I see in parents group. All sec 1s and 2s will get to learn robotics and coding which I know my girl enjoys as she is quite proud of her achievement in her assignments. Her seniors are so helpful and always ready to provide advice, esp evident in the subj combi selection. Sch gets seniors to talk to the cohort abt their experiences and teachers teaching sec 3s and 4s to get them some glimpses of the different subjects. They are candid and gave genuine feedback in their sharing, not all roses and sunshine type. I like that career guidance is carefully curated from sec 1 to 4. from what I learn from parents from other schools, ours provided the most, from sec 1. Maybe other schools only focus on seniors or sec 4s. There was a session in small groups of 5 where the counsellor asked each girl abt their aspirations in university and career choices. Recently they had a NASA scientist came to school with her collegue to talk to them about their job. She was an old girl. We also attended a uni seminar recently by 3 local uni so career counselling starts early for us which I am thankful as my girl is still figuring out. Our school motto is to seek purpose in life and our P always begin with this phrase. Seeking purpose in life is not about working hard for exam only...... I can go on and on....LOL...feel free to PM me if you need after sec 1 posting. But the school is well organised and has good comm with parents so you should not need to.
Will let other parents jump in on IB.... :please:
Hi hi both
Thanks for sharing more in-depth on the key factors for not including scgs O level.
Yup read about the $300+ school fees, somewhere in previous posts. Indeed it is an additional outlay if all other conditions remaining the same.
A dual track school allows crossover from O level to IP @ end of year 2 albeit via limited vacancies. Thereby allowing another way to achieve your intent of point 1 (IP + strings + mep).
@avenue3, all the best to you!

Our latest choices became
1. SCGS IP
2. MGS O
3. Crescent O
Good morning!
Thank you autolycus for your sharing.
Also welcome other parents with daughters studying in mgs (past and present) or planning to enrol in mgs next year to share your anecdotes both good or not so good about the school eg. School programmes, IB experience, O level experience, dealing with teachers, coping with school life and things to look out for.
Cheers and have a good week ahead!
Hi autolycus,
Thank you for your sharing. Dropped by the school twice for their visit / tour day. The conduct of the guides impresses me and my daughter. However at both times they were from IB side, so was curious to find more about the O level track.
1. Would you also know why the SBA was cancelled?
2. Are there any compulsory subjects that the girls must take in O level Yr 3? Some schools we visited shared that certain subjects are mandatory at Yr 3 eg. Chemistry, Literature.
Thank you.
Hi,
I went through the past postings but didn’t see much postings regarding MGS O level track.
Wonder if anyone can share information on the O level track such as:
A. No. or percentage of non-affliated students admitted in past years eg. 2022, 2021?
B. While I understand that IB and O level are different, will students pursuing at O level be given opportunities (eg. Certain worksheets for IB students) at Yr 1 or 2 to experience what the IB students are going through? So as to get a feel should they will like to apply for IB at Yr 2.
3. As there is a chance to move from O level to IB at year 2, does this means the curriculum for the first 2 years are similar? If not, what are the delta eg project work?
Thank you in advance
