Hi, what do you mean by Cath High's conceptual approach? Not following MOE? Pardon my ignorance.

      Hi,
If you need Maths tuition for your Cat High Boy using Cath High's conceptual approach. pls drop me a pm.

In CHS, starting this year(for P1, 3, 5 only) for maths, they use worksheets developed by the school instead of those workbooks that come with the textbooks. The teachers use a different approach to look at the maths problems. E.g, they will ask the boys to spot mistakes on a supposedly correct answer to a question. But the methods(e.g. model solving) to solve the problems and the topics being taught are still in line with MOE. It is just another way to understand the questions better. My advice would be to buy the normal textbook, like My Pals are here, as a reference guide if u are not sure about the topics and how the conventional methods work. Then, u will have a better understanding when u compare the school's approach with the conventional methods.

I must say that though the worksheets questions might seen difficult/tricky for the boys(more to us parents ) . U will b surprised how the boys can do these sums in a matter of minutes once they are \"trained\". In this way, the school actually prepares the boys for the more complex problems in the upper primary. Just look at this year's PSLE exam questions n u know what I mean.

Hi there, my son will be going P1 next year. Glad to join the group  Any advice for the P1 Orientation?

Based on my memory, the school's orientation was very well organised. I was given a folder with all the necessary forms to be filled and booklist. So, remembering your son's birth cert no. and bank acc no. to giro school fees wld b helpful. Having a valid email address and handphone no. wld help a lot as the school send important info thru these means(though they wld give hard copy to the boys to bring home, but u noe the boys cld b forgetful n leave it in school.)

In the canteen, there were enrichment centres offering Hanyu pinyin course for the preparation to P1, vendors for the name tags, transport and school uniform were oso there. I bought the school uniform, textbooks n stationery from the school bookshop on the same day.

As for the CCAs, the forms wld b distributed on the first week of school. But, just be prepared that the types of CCA the P1s can join are limited.

      Hope this helps.
