• RE: Is CCA important in JC?

CCA performance is not so important (unless you are considering good Us in Us/Canada, or scholarships).

CCA attendance is important, it will affect your testimonials.

In conclusion, the minimal you need to do is to choose a CCA with only one session per week and make yourself physically present on that day.

• RE: Continue JC or take Private A levels

1. Teacher not seemingly to be good? Teachers are allocated based on their residental address by MOE. Teachers teaching in IJC/YJC have the same qualifications as those in NJC/VJC, they are teaching there just because they stay not too far way.

2. A private school is ridiculous, it is mainly for JC students who fail the A level after two years, so that students can have another chance after a round of revision.

3. Entry to a local university requires 3H2 (20 each) +1H1+1GP+1PW (10 each) +HMT/H1 MT(up to 3 bonus point), full point is 90/90. Once you choose not to take A level in a government JC, you will not take PW and the maximum total you will get is a 80/90, which means you are automatically disqualified for 1/3 of the courses, i.e. the hottest ones. A JC candidate scoring ABC/CCC get 75, but a private candidate scoring ABB/BB only gets 72.5. 75 can secure a place in engineering, but 72.5 may not.

• RE: Cambridge international A levels ??

Some other A level certificates, as stated in NUS/NTU/SMU admission website, are accepted by these local Us. However, if a course’s vacancy has been filled up with local JC graduates, IB graduates and poly best performers, there will be no vacancy left for applicants holding other international certificate - this measure is to protect the rights of students in Singapore’s Education System.

For accountancy in Business, there is definitely no chance for applicants with other international certificates as it has been one of the hottest so far. Frankly speaking, even local JC graduates need a mimimum of 85pt to enter AAA/ABB, it is not fair for ppl studying an easier syllabus to enter, even he/she can score A for all subjects, because his/her admission means an JC graduate with almost perfect score will be kicked out.

Heard CJC this year SC is COP 9, is it true?

What is your opinion of the JC?

Does it mean that the JC is getting better when the COP get better?
It means more students are choosing JC route this year comparing to previous years

COP is based on nett off bonus points ( 2 for cca and 2 for HMT ), from raw score, L1R5. Therein lies the importance of cca and HMT.

In this instance, i haven't factored in the lower tier jcs which are:

Innova JC
Jurong JC
Pioneer JC
Serangoon JC
Tampines JC
Yishun JC

Students that are unable to gain admittance to the better jcs can vie for the above places. As long as a student qualifies for jc, there's a school caters for him/her.

For reasons, i did not include Millenia Institute in the above as it is a pre -u centre which runs a 3-year A-level programme.

Affiliation also got 2 bonus points can be used to nett off from law score L1R5. Friend's daughter got 9-6 =3!

The total bonus of affiliation, HMT and CCA is capped at 4.

The only way to get additional bonus is to apply to enroll in CLEP, MEP or AEP (chinese language/music/art elective programmes).

• RE: Appeal Enquiry

nachira:
Hi all. I just got posted to Anderson JC (Arts). It's my third choice.

I kinda regret not putting Anderson JC (Science) as my first choice because I got rejected by NYJC (science). I was initially persistent into choosing NYJC because it offers Art Elective programme. Nevertheless, I appealed to both NYJC Science (I don't really care if I get accepted or not) and AJC Science.

I got a raw of 12 and a nett of 8 (4 bonus points for HMT and CCA) and I'm hoping for AJC Science.

As for my grades, they are not all A1s or A2s. My Chem and Physics are A2 and B3 respectively whereas my C. Humanities (SS/Hist) and Pure Geography are both B3.

What do you think of my chances getting accepted to AJC Science?

/if I get rejected by both AJC and NYJC, I may not stay on for AJC Arts. Instead, I will appeal to JJC Science. I realised that the travelling time taken was a bit too long. If I am accepted by AJC Science, I will stay on because it's worth the time.

Anyway, when will the results for the appeal be out? Or are we notified before 6 February if we are successful? Thanks. 🙂
1. Chance question cannot be answered, I think it would be meaningless to you if a figure 60% or 40% is given to you.

2. 6 Feb? It really depends on school an you have to check their websites for submission of appeals and releasing of the result. For example, NJC appeal submission must be done by 1 Feb noon and only postive outcome will be delivered to the applcants via phone call by 2 Feb noon.

3. Usually a JC do not accept a student to change stream from art to science. If you do not want to learn art, you should not even put it as one of the 12 choices.
Did anybody get posted to ACJC ?

I know someone with 12 pts who got into ACJC via appeal thru cca 😄

Wow, which CCA is that?
To clarify (you can find the document on MOE website), those who score (nett) the same as the COP:

First rule: SC>PR>Internation student
Second rule: Among all SCs, balloting will be done by the system RANDOMLY, the school has no right to pick students based on their raw score/grade(s) of specific subject(s)/CCA.

• RE: Appealing to another JC need help

Yonghao123:
Hi! as of the moment i am currently posted to YJC. Went to their school today for their orientation and found that i did't really like their school environment. Its a good school and all but i don't think it suits me. Currently i am trying to appeal to SRJC. My L1R5 is 15 but the COP for srjc is 12 this year after deduction i only got 13 net score so i am using my cca Band to appeal in the school. I hope fellow people in the forum can help me and offer me suggestion on what school to go to other than YJC. I live in AMK so no where is actually far but not near either. So please help. If i left out any details that you guy need to help me just say. I am really worried about this cause if i don't like the school i won't study that well too.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basic requirement for appealing to a JC, you must have listed that JC as one of the 12 choices (preferrably first choice). Otherwise, the college has no right to accept you. so you should share with us what JCs you listed before YJC.

By the way, the deadlines for submitting appeal are today and tomorrow for some JCs, so please hurry before you miss them.

• RE: i scored 27 for O's can i still appeal into a jc? urgent!!

personalizer:
confusedbee:
27 points is an average of 4 points for each subject of your L1R5.

I wouldn't suggest you going the JC route, because the demands of a JC curriculum is tremendous, and especially for H2 Maths and H2 Physics, it builds on your O levels knowledge.

JC teachers assumed you are well versed with your O levels curriculum, and if you aren't, it will be really tough to survive JC.

Thanks for the reply! I wanted to take BCE (H2) and M as H1(since i didnt take amath) How is the syllabus like? Does it really really require very strong o level knowledge as foundation? 😞 (for chem esp)

From my personal experience, if you're determined to work hard, and I mean very hard, you will do well. I did badly for my o levels as well, by my own standard, which was 13 raw, 9 nett. C5 for english and b3 for chem. chem does require o level knowledge, but not ask much as you think you need. I forgot all my o level chem knowledge in jc as well. The important point is to listen to lectures and do all your tutorials before every tutorial lesson. Take the chance at tutorial classes to clear your doubts. DO NOT procrastinate and wait until you're near exams then start to consult your tutors, this will cause a snowballing effect and you'll realize you can't catch up by then. All subjects are the same, consult if in doubt, don't wait. I can see you're determined to go the jc/mi route, so don't give up and prepare to work doubly hard. When you're about to give up, just think of the end result when you receive your result slip from your principal 🙂 I guess you don't want to regret like you did during o levels right?
Good reflection.

Jonathan Lim:
What category should we appeal under ?

If you have good CCA records for performing arts (band, choir ...) or sports (track and field, floor ball...), you can appeal under CCA. However, that means you must join the same CCA if you are admitted.

If you have a reasonably good prelim results or some prizes won in varies math/science/... competitions, you can try academic excellence. The standard of your school plays an important role in this category as well.
