No worries. I am just directing at one particular user here only. There are many endearing parents of top pupils here like 25hr mama, zeemimi, etc..
I think parents of top students are pretty 'switched-off', actually.. They won't waste their time & energy worrying about what you've mentioned..firefly38:
Could it be the reverse: parents of top pupils do not want the average pupils to be near their kids results...you get the impact right?
Waiting to be flamed.... :imdrowning:
As for the top students, i believe they always look at what's in front of them.. They are least bothered by what's behind them..

Brainless....i think...
Are you speaking for yourself? I think you should not generalise your perception. I seriously do not think 'the parent of the average students want to be near the Top students in results. Needless to say'.funnydaddy:
PEACE....
I am back. It's a clear cut which group you belong to....and it is clear cut why the parent of the average students want to be near the Top students in results. Needless to say.
Many of them have θͺη₯δΉζ and are at peace with their lives and others like myself would like to stay away from the self-declared elites (without inner substance).
I am not defending myself as my dc is in the best class and his results hover between the top 1-8%. My dc belongs to the sandwiched group but what you had stated is a big insult to the parents of the average students, IMHO. :frustrated:
Your kid could be a top student but the parent's arrogance is certainly a mis-matched. -

There is no right or wrong....
It's all depends on if the child is an average student or a top student. I am sure for average student, their parents want the papers to be easy..thus not agreeing to having difficult paper, so that to get close to the top students. For top students, they want the paper to be difficult to see the real delta.
BUT
Strongly disagreed to the statement : I am sure for average student, their parents want the papers to be easy..thus not agreeing to having difficult paper, so that to get close to the top students.

The maths paper doesn't need to be all difficult. MOE only needs to have a few difficult questions to test out the students and differiate the T-Score and etc, so as to statify all students (top, above average and average and even those not so good to ensure that they meet the grade) . The basic (what they learnt in school) is still needed for the rest of the paper to cater for the overall cohort. But this year paper is just too easy.....I do not believe the better students are asking for all difficult questions. Cheers !! -

25hr mama:
But here I'm not talking abt competing for a place in top school. I'm talking abt top performers type of students, feeling that when a paper is too easy, they are deprived of a chance to outshine others, bcos with more people (referring to average or above average students here), now are able to score as a high as them, and that makes these pupils unhappy. Not forgetting that, some of these are those who already got multiple COs, but still has this mentality of seeing others falter & the want to outdo others is a real concern & not a healthy sign.

RE: 2013 PSLE - Answer Comparison
Nightmares.:
For the airmail question, 'Mass Step' (which was in the table) means part thereof. Thus, 3 is wrong and 4 is correct.
Agree but \"mass step 20g\"....then every 10g -

Yes, I know the postage question was posted earlier but what I meant was i wan't sure if the key words were reproduced or reproduced accurately.
I see. I hope 4 is the answer ($2.25) as my ds put 4. but I think otherwise...... -
RE: 2013 PSLE - Answer Comparison
kira:
True. It really boils down to the wording in the question. I asked my dd and she cannot remember the exact wording used. We are not so concerned. Just curious.
Someone posted the question earlier....
The key word here is \"additional step of 100g\"funnydaddy:
For the postage qn, i did a check on singpost website using an eg of surface mail to Malaysia which is 85 cents for max 100g and $1per additional step of 100g.
Then I used the \"calculate postage\" check for 110g. The postage price is $1.85. It seems that the additional 10g is chargeable as part of the additional step price.
Based on this, the ans could be $2.25.
Appreciate if someone else can check as well. -

Sorry, do you mean kids strong in Maths when you say 'some kids'? But average students do work on piles and piles of papers, work on certain areas and rework. They do not put in less efforts and face lesser pressure.
Thats why their effort pays off.....with this year paper...
Yes, if we look at the brighter side......but this will definately disadvantage some kids....and they really put in lots of effort, doing papers after papers, zoom into areas/topics whereby they are not so good in and etc. just hoping to get that addtional 1-2 marks to bring up the T-score.....funnydaddy:
How about we look at the issue at another angle: schools hv bn unreasonably stressing our children out by setting standards higher than MOE original intention.
Now the children are better prepared by schools, so not challenging anymore when sitting for MOE set paper.
