Sunsun2015:
I guess it would be better to accept that the decision that you made cannot be rectified. Look forward and not back. What is done cannot be undone so why not focus on the future of your DS in the new school. Every cloud has a silver lining so dont worry to much ya?UBKmom:
My DS got very good result, possible to appeal DSA? I want to cry, I made wrong decision for him.
He got 276, my wrong decision is that I didnt respect his choice! He did not want to take CO at all! It's me it's me! I made choice for him at the last minute! I felt very guilty!

RE: Young people and stress
Hi. I am a student and my friend told me that she started cutting her wrists and cut until the bone so that there will be more blood. Please advice me how to help her and advise her to stop trying to kill herself. I really don't want to lose my friend. Thank you.

RE: CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' Secondary
bsk:
Probably, if she does well in General Ability Test and the extra test that St Nicks has. Afterwards, there will be an interview with the IP year heads and the other teachers(IP since she is going for dsa acad). For my batch, there were 3 interviewers. Based on experience, St Nicks didn't specify that they needed a very high score for GAT though. More information is available here http://www.chijstnicholasgirls.moe.edu.sg/ but will only be announced when the DSA registration timing is near. Meanwhile, MOE website would also be very useful.Hi
I would like to try via DSA(academic) route to this school.
My daughter s P5 result isn't very good. One A* and remaining As(85%).
Is there a chance to get via DSA academic ? If so what is the procedure
Really appreciate your suggestions
Leadership, achievements and teacher's recommendation letter are also very important. It would be beneficial if your daughter is in student council exco, prefectorial board exco, cca exco or any recognised positions. The All Rounder Award would also be very beneficial, so as the other awards or achievements that are recognized by the school. They will also want to see how your daughter's contributions will help the school too. -
RE: IP vs O level
starlight1968sg:
Can we conclude that IP is meant for those more academically inclined?
Nope. Its true that you have to be more or less academically inclined for IP track, as the requirements have stated (250 and above). However, the student must be comfortable with doing self-study and is disciplined enough to get extra information that are beneficial to his or her studies. Not to worry, the IP track may need the student to be independent but the teachers will assist them and answer their questions. IP students are not treated differently from the O level students. It is just that the teaching methods used towards the IP students are slightly different from the O level students. Of course, notes will be given.
All in all, being in the IP track does not mean that the student has to burn the midnight oil and put all his time on studying. Rather, it is more important that the student is able to grasp the concept well. Also, there is no point if the student is more academically inclined but does not have the right learning attitude.

RE: Crescent Girls' or St Nicholas Girls'
I’m from St Nicks Secondary too and yes, im not from the primary side. I am still studying in St Nicks but overall, I feel that the environment are really good and our principal inculcates good values in us. Our seniors are really friendly and the graduates frequently visit the school and help out in many activities. I’m not saying that Crescent Girls’ isn’t good though. Additionally, although some of my classmates are from the primary side, they are really awesome friends and they don’t push you away just because they are from the primary side and you aren’t. Hoped this helped.

RE: IP vs O level

Maybe it depends on the reason to switch. And on a case to case basis.Goodluck8:
My friend daughter being trying to switch fr ip to o level during end of sec one, the hod and principal told her straight, cannot unless ur girl did not meet the promotion criteria. Until this yr sec two, still stuck with ip.
I know a student (personally) who switch to O levels class successfully at end Y2, in a single track school. The reason was not due to inability to cope with the IP syllabus. In fact, the kid was coping well. Took a fair bit of appeal and convincing before the sch approves her request.
The responsibility lies with the student and/or parents who opt for IP to consider carefully.
For CHIJ St Nicholas Girls Secondary School, they are allowed to switch to O level track. Also, if the O level student does very well in her studies, non-academics and has good time managemet, she may also be allowed to switch to the IP track. -

RE: DSA 2015

Anyone could share about the selection of 3rd Lang esp for those successful in DSA application? It seem like we have very little time to search in this area.
Good evening. I'm from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls Secondary School and I entered through DSA. It is stated in the MOE Website that pupils who are offered with third language and have successfully admitted the school of their choice via the DSA-Sec Exercise must also apply for Third Language(s) during the S1 Option Exercise if they wish to take up a Third Language. A total of eight Third Languages are offered. They are the Malay (Special Programme), Chinese (Special Programme), Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.
For me, I managed to apply for third language and got into the German class. However, I have to quit it because of the heavy workload and Music Elective Programme as their timing may clash when you have MEP classes that are out of curriculum time. Hence, if you are going to take MEP classes in secondary school, it is best not to take Third Lang, or rather, drop Third Lang when you reach Sec 3.
Also, during my batch, German was a popular Third Language that a lot of students applied for.
Hoped my reply helped you. If you have any other queries, do visit the MOE Website because they really provide a lot of information.

RE: CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' Secondary
blahunicorns16:
how are sec one ip students grouped into classes?? also how many sec one ip classes are there??
Hi. I'm from St Nicholas Girls Secondary IP Section. For secondary 1, we don't have a specific grouping unless you are in Music Elective Program where you will end up in 1 Justice if you are in the IP track. Normally, in each class, there will be 25-27 students, thus allowing students to have a more efficient study environment. Additionally, there are 6 secondary one IP classes.
Hope my reply helped you and if you have any other queries, you may visit our school website http://www.chijstnicholasgirls.moe.edu.sg/
By the way, we are also having our open house on the 28th of November 2015, this Saturday from 9am to 4pm. More information can be found on our school website as well. See you there!
