Hi parents, I have been following this thread for a quite while and learnt so much from all the parents here. I need to seek advices from you all.
My DD has a CO from SST.
My girl is always strong in Math and Science compared to her languages, which can be double or triple to her Math and Science AL. But she really perseveres since P5 and manage to push her Chinese from AL6 last year to prelim AL2, her English as well. We always thought it maybe good if she goes to a school that emphasis on Math and Science since she has been struggled with languages. But on the day before SST interview, she cried while we helped her to prepare her IV and told us she still would like to do literature etc in Secondary. We supported her decision and told her if she didn't want to go ahead with the iv, we will inform the school. But she decided to experience the iv process.
May I seek your opinions on choosing a school (I am sorry that I asked this question here as I follow another discussion group and it is very quiet there). My DS is with a primary school affiliated to a secondary and ACJC currently. Her P5 SA 2 is 14, P6 CA 1 is 10, P6 SA1 is 8 and Prelim is 7.
Choice of school:
1. MGS IB
2. NJC
3. Crescent, MGS o-level or affiliated secondary school.
All above schools are within travel distance from our place and we have no preference on all girls school or cohort schools.
Thank you in advance and appreciate your advices. Have a good day.

RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake

If you're within 1km to Keng Cheng, you should be safe. Not sure about the breakdown but don't worry so much about the balloting. There will be enough vacancies in other schools in Phase 2C(S), e.g.: Guang Yang, First Toa Payoh, etc. Don't give up on balloting just because of the failed 2A2.Anyone has breakdown for Kheng Chèng?
For me I also can't decide if to take the risk go balloting or settle one that is less popular. I got balloted out in phase 2A2 and I'm scared I can't take the 2nd blow.. -

I think for HWS parents who have boys, if they withdraw, are likely going to try for SJI Jr as they may be staying within 1 km or 1-2km as it is relatively safer than the 28:114 seats vs applicants in HWS.
Please take into account the ACS parents who are still on the fence today. They will flood SJIJ at the last minute and some SJIJ parents >1 km might not have enough time to activate Plan B. -

ACS still has vacancies because there is still 1 more day to go. Many parents will go into sprint mode in the last lap nearer to the end of the day.tinywings:
Did anyone do any research to compare 2C applicants for Day 1 and Day 2 for last yr 2017 and 2018, any big differences? I remember last year Chief Kiasu posted a data sheet for 2C, day 1 how many applicants. Day 2 how many applicants and so on. Can anyone find the link again and repost here? So we can compare last yr and this yr.
To estimate, if u have time, total up the number of places already taken for all the schools. This will roughly tell us the % of kids already registered n % increase to expect for the next 2 days. Barring difference in population distribution, I think it would be a good gauge on which schools will eventually be over subscribed. We see that some hot schools like ACS still have vacancies, obviously these is too good to be true -
RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

hi mummytang, i just went to see the balloting history and i think you are right. there was space in clementi pri at 2cs last year. I haven't been monitoring the stats so closely. but there were years where only pei tong has spaces in phase 2cs and this being the dragon year, the figures may not follow past year trends. you will hv to monitor the figures very closely this year to make the final call. Reasons why we chose qifa
hi BnW, thanks for sharing. I am also in a dilemma.... I saw last year that there was space in clementi pri at phase 2cs? Or maybe I did not look correctly. When are you registering your child? Could you share why you have decided to choose Qifa? What do you like about Qifa? Have you any feedback about the school that you can share? Many thanks in advance.Mummytang:
Hi mummytang,
I'm staying at west coast too. Nan hua is the most popular and most competitive amongst the 4 schools in the clementi area. Clementi Pri and Qifa are popular too and all the spaces are usually taken up by Phase 2c, so the only school with vacancies at Phase 2cs is Pei Tong Pri. Your question whether to go for NH or Qifa is a common dilemma amongst pp living in our area. Some decide to try balloting in Nan Hua while others just go for Qifa in phase 2c. I myself have decided to go for Qifa (which is 5 mins walk from my house and they are a decent school) then to take the risk.
1) we can apply under 2A(2)
2) it is a short walk from our house
3) a few of my neighbours kids are/were in the school and have good feedback. say it is a good school to develop kids, and a few kids transfer to NH after qualifying for gifted program. they have a good reading program in place. mostly good feedback but 1 neighbour wants to transfer her boy out as the school doesn't support competitive swimming. quite a few of my son's schoolmates in childcare and friend's friends (who stay in west coast) are also applying for qifa.
4) their academics have steadily improved over the years based on their number of psle scorers above 250 which i saw from their website. their core sports is volleyball where they have won medals. seems like they exposure all their students to volleyball during PE.
5) based on my child's progress in childcare which is more play thru learning based, i feel a good neighbourhood school will suit/develop him better than NH. i'll go for big fish in small pond effect, rather than a small fish in big pond theory for my boy.
that said, if your child suits a fast pace academic environment, NH is good. believe they get lots of exposure in other areas too. some of my frens did grassroots and apply through phase 2b. i didn't do that much research on the various schools so can't comment too much. a lot is based on friends/neighbours feedback. hope this info helps
I have a different thought regarding the fish analogy. In my opinion, some fish need a bigger pond in order to grow. If the pond is too small or unsuitable, in the end the fish will suffer. So I think the pond has to be just right, not too big (super competitive school), not too small (super laid back school). -

Queenstown principle is a lady, but you said \"he\". Are you talking about same principle? Just to clarify.
Oops sorry. Looks like my information is incorrect. He went to Queensway Secondary, not Queenstown Primary.
I would personally go for Queenstown as the principal was from ACS Primary and I believe he would make a difference there. Just my personal opinion.galaxyraider:
Hi All,
My boy is due to register for P1 this year. We shortlisted Gan Eng Seng (2C <1km), New Town (2A2) and Queenstown (2C 1-2km). Principles have changed within these few years but didn't notice much positive or negative comments. Hence, would like to tap onto your knowledge to share your view or feedback on these 3 schools. Thanks in advance. -

I really doubt any parent would withdraw from ACSJ just to join the balloting in ACSP and risk losing everything.
maybe they are.. but there is a possibility since they are feeling confident with being within 1km? lets see how it pans out.zac's mum:
The people in the WhatsApp group are all applying this year? That means they are all fellow competitors. Maybe they are throwing smoke bombs to confuse other people lor.
Anyway, U can believe whatever you want to believe. I have already said what I know. My son is already P2 in a school that he loves, and I think the principal is excellent. Good luck for 2nd August. -

Baekenbae:
Why is it that this year the preference seems to be for junior over primary? Did something change?
This is only sue to the musical chair effect whereby ACSP parents switched to ASCJ in the last minute to avoid balloting but still ended up in balloting.
But I might be wrong. Maybe ACSJ has become more popular due to its holistic approach. I guess ACSP is more academic-centric as it's a GEP school. I might be wrong though. -

I don't think there's a minimum period before registration date. MOE only imposed minimum occupancy period from the registration date.Dear all,
Any idea if we have to stay in the >1km place for how long to be considered as valid for Phrase 2C registration?
