Zappy:Thank you! :xedfingers:According to the note inside the pack that we just bought, the remaining papers can be collected from the stalls after 11 Sep. For some schools, the papers are simply not available yet - even the students themselves have not gotten back the exam scripts.gbz:Any idea where to get NYPS and HPPS papers?
:thankyou:

Good post!gbz:
Just to share. For those got CO, Rejected or WL for NYGH - It is NOT about your school perfect results that landed you Rejection; It is also NOT you are a average student that landed you a CO. It is NOT even you have amazing accolades that landed you a CO. It is your ACTUAL performance on their selected test as well as your interview performance that landed you a CO. Even if you have perfect scores of full marks from your school exam, ; or SMBO, various awards from competition -- but if on actual day, your brain did not twist or function properly and during the interview, you did not react spontaneously, you will not be successful for the DSA.
That is why, over the years alot of forumers shared their dc's profile of successfully receive CO. Some MS, some GEP, some no awards, some high profile etc... that's no hard and fast rule with regards for NYGH to shortlist their candidates. Remember you already been shortlisted for interview based on your school results & awards; hence the last Tests that the school want to confirm is your dc's talent that they specifically look for. If they purposely rejected those high ability students which they thought they will come in with high T-score, they might not shortlist them for selected test & interview in the first place. It is just wasting their time.
Therefore, NYGH do have their own final selection criteria based on their Selected tests & Interview on that day; To cherry pick the girls that they want them to strive in their school..- Afterall NYGH is Top school in S'pore, why would the school want to purposely reject the talented students and indirectly ask them to go other schools instead?
Once again, I congratulate the DSA 2018 parents for their dc successfullyin getting CO & WL to NYGH. The WL is also 100% high rate of converting to CO on PSLE's results day (As long don't score below 200). For those who were unsuccessful, treat it as a experience. 加油 towards PSLE.
Correction though. NYGH is NOT the Top school in Singapore cos then that is neglecting the fact that approximately half the population are boys, and there are minorities in Singapore. And it is an affiliated school. With SAP schools, HMT can give bonus points.
Minorities are not accepted and can’t apply into NYGH and most other SAP schools.
I reckon most of them view NYGH as a Top IP school in Singapore, based on last COP 264 among all the schools, including co-ed and boy's school. Hence, we are based on NYGH highest COP every year among other schools.
Understand.
However, Nygh has another cut off point of 250 for affiliation though. Just like other schools with affiliation.
In addition, 3 bonus points for higher chinese only, not other higher languages. That puts it back on par with the rest if we disregard the affiliation bit.
So, other schools that accept minorities can easily equalise based on higher languages.
I think the published COP doesn’t include those admitted via DSA?
Minorities are playing the game but not based on the same rules. Fair? It’s not (just like P1 registration for 1/4 of the population etc, like a parent mentioned before) but no point arguing about fairness, PSLE is just another high stakes “game”, quoting some coaches in workshops. -

RE: DSA 2018
I think it is expected for Raffles schools.
It’s about selection of the child best fit for the schools, ie being all-rounded in terms of doing well academically, CCAs (academic and sports clubs), exceptional type of awards and in other aspects (leadership, community contribution etc), which will be the challenge that not many can cope.
As mentioned by some previous posts, and coming from RGS/RJC previously, there is a high regard for students that have already demonstrated this in various means at a young tender age.
RGS is well-known for not looking for booksmart ones as they can get in through PSLE T-score. This is similar to that mentioned by RI principal and RI HOD I/C for admissions. They also don’t want “all from same schools”. I think they want a variety of strengths to make up the winning team.
Note out it’s also mentioned that they do not compare apples with oranges ie different schools, the definition of doing well academically is different. Ie 80s for one does not equate to being less than 90s for another, due to different school standards.
So, each child that can goes to the next stage has something exceptional that makes her/him chosen.
This has always been the practice even in olden days without official DSA where school select students who rep country etc, However, if selected based on sports, they frequently have difficulty coping with the curriculum n have been repeats.
After all, doing well in primary does not mean doing well in secondary school, it’s a different ball game altogether. It’s the character of grit and determination to overcome odds that will make one prevail at the later stage and beyond.
So, do trust that the schools have enough experience to know and think through the selection. -

I am just curious. Masterclasses are limited to gep or gep students tend to be selected for masterclass? Cos I know a mainstream student who was invited for masterclass and “other gep programs” by school.
I think at the end of the day, the secondary school teachers are looking for someone whose result is not a fluke.abhcbl:
Personally, I would give more credit to Masterclasses than MO (Science could be different). The reason is because MO could be trained (know a lot of them who go through intensive training ... some even to the extent of three times a week and working on the question everyday for at least 1-2 hrs). Drilling with past year questions, special formula and method. Whereas, masterclass is exposure to research, analysis and presentation ... so will have to be really have passion in Math and, of course, good in it too. However, do agree, that we missed out the mainstream.
By the way, for science olympiad, there are already an internal selection by the school as each school could only send a limited number of student ... so you will see less gold medal (base is much smaller). In that sense, those get gold should be really good, but silver... you never know. This is different from MO which usually has no limit.
We should also look at the base of selection ... for example, in Math Masterclass ... it is like 20~25/500 ... top 4~5% of GEP students. For MO, eg. NMOS about top 2-3% received gold (3% x 2,000 students) ... 60, RIPWMC top 2-3% go to second round. But if you look at those with ranking, it is usually the same 10-20 of them across all olympiad.
Personally, I think science olympiad are more valuable, because it is more difficult to do well by just drilling on past year papers or attend tuition (you don't really see science olympiad tuition vs Maths ... there is like so many centers to choose from). So those good in Science Olympiad must be really talented and have a strong passion in science.
So, if you are in GEP masterclass and you hold gold in Olympiad or you have good P5/P6 results, then u r safe.
Just being in masterclass, does not really mean anything if you have nothing else to prove.
Last year, a child in Math masterclass is not selected for DSA becos he does not have outstanding P5/P6 results and also no other medal. Another child gets into DSA due to good results AND medal.
Just sharing what I know, don't flame me..... -

Received email for interview for science domain. Is interview the next stage for shortlisted? I guess if no email stating unsuccessful, take it as still waiting for results? -

RGS or MGS? Which school is more cosmopolitan ? Any thoughts?
RGS. Asean scholars are there. Malays and Indians are restricted in the top schools they can apply due to the unavailability of MT in schools, even specialised schools and the inclined nature of religion and Chinese culture of some schools. In fact, now RGS has internal HML teachers whereas previously they go to a common national centre after school hours and MT period was “free time”. Yet, even top schools have 10-13 students per batch according to current students ie 2.5%, usually only those that top their schools. Probably partly also based on proximity, not usual area of residence of these communities.
