He has been asked to leave the civil service.

      :!: What happened?

I heard he is a scholar hence special track for promotion by moe.

From what I know, the AM teachers were told to report very early one day for a special meeting. Then he announced from a prepared text about \"his resignation\" as instructed by the authorities.

why is there a change of principal? tot they have a term of 6 year to complete.
I have received the letter of change of principal from Chua Ying Hwee to Jenny Leong.

But to me it seems that these 2 people are always not around, so there is no difference if there is any change at all.

In the letter, Mr Chua stated that he's leaving for private sector, therefore a change of principal
He has been asked to leave the civil service.

In my honest opinion, I'm glad Mrs Leong is heading RSS because she knows very well what the school wants.

Can't say much about the current VP though..............

    • RE: Q&A - PSLE Math

For this question, you have to make one assumption and that is both start off the race at the same start line and at the same time.

Hmmm, in the past, PSLE exams were straight forward and all doubts are cleared before they approved the questions to be set. Now, the questions are deliberately set to make the students think hard.
Indeed. Think too hard under a short time. Do you how many P6 kids had sacrificed their social and quality learning time this year, for MONTHS (some even YEARS), just to realise that their PSLE consists of a bunch of unrealistically set questions?

Yes, I say unrealistic since even most of the GEP kids could not even confirm their answer for the last 4 questions. I mean, up till now, have you heard of any parent or student who have said \"I can confidently score Paper 2 this time\" ?

If you haven't, then I think the setters have gone too far beyond what even the smartest brainiest 12-year-old kid in SG can go. Not a fair test I say.

I won't be surprised if some of our maths whizzes would stop pursuing their interest in the subject altogether after this paper. Have the authorities even thought of it? Is assessment, not interest, the number one thing on everyone's minds in SG?

    • RE: PSLE - New Format for Maths

I think all of you MUST console and tell your kids about the moderation part and that everyone’s going to be fine. No doubt it’s a difficult paper, there will still be a generous distribution of A and A* grades, if that’s what they are expecting.

A student from a certain top school is intending to suicide because of this morning’s paper. Hearsay.

      Hi all,

Is there a flexible \"rule of thumb\" to denote whether the questions of that particular cohort could be rendered \"too easy, can throw\", or \"2006 - 2008 can use, anything before that would be too easy\" kinda thing?

For math. a \"5-mark\" question in the early 2000 will not appear as \"3-mark\" question. So I don't throw math paper away.

There is not much change in English and Science.

That's the problem you see. I realise a rising standard in English too, especially P5 and P6. I gauged that by assessing the vocabulary words for Q16-25. Even the SynTrans questions on Q66-70 seem to have more diverse sentence structures for transformation. Gulp. o.O

    • Rising Standards of Examination Questions

      Hi all,

I have been in touch with the school syllabus for quite some time. And I am shocked by the increasing standards of examination questions, more evidently in the upper primary levels.

Then, there are the textbooks versus the past year examination papers. The differences in standards are truly far apart - one emphasises on the basic concepts, the other on heuristics, process skills, and everything else you would expect "Singapore’s Brainiest Kid" to solve and get all correct.

My question: To keep up with the standards of probable questions, would you look at the year of publication, or exam paper year? Is there a flexible "rule of thumb" to denote whether the questions of that particular cohort could be rendered "too easy, can throw", or "2006 - 2008 can use, anything before that would be too easy" kinda thing?
