• RE: All About Ballet

Hi all my soon to be 4.5 years old dd just started ballet class a few weeks ago. During the 1st trial class she was a bit shy and nervous so did not really follow all the class rountine but she said she would like to continue so I signed her up for 1 term. She did much better during the 2nd class and was able to follow most of exercises. Last week I told her I’ll wait for her outside the studio instead of staying to watch her since it’s the school policy that parents can’t stay in during class. Then she started crying and I thought she needed more time to become independent so I stayed inside anyway. But throughout the whole class she just stood there and didn’t join the class at all. After we got home she told me she doesen’t want to attend ballet class anymore coz it’s not fun. But we knew that it’s not true she just didn’t want to stay without me in the class.

I’m in a dilemma and dunno what to do now. Should I talk to the teacher and ask to stay with her until she’s ready? or should I just leave her anyway even she cries? I see that other girls in her class are of similar age and they are all ok to be alone for 45 mins w/o their parents. I really don’t want her to give up ballet just because of her fear since I can see that she likes dancing. She’s usually not a clingy child and everyone at preschool thinks she’s independent and confident. But whenever I mention sending her to classes without me by her side freaks her out and she will say "NO" even though she really likes the activities. I have tried sending her to ballet class when she was a bit younger (almost 4) and the same thing happened so I guess she was a bit negative about ballet until now.

Can you please share your advice and similar experiences? Thanks.
Can anyone advise me if SBA will accept 5 y.o. with zero dancing experience?

Yes SBA accepts gals from 4 year old onwards but they must pass an audition. I brought my dd to SBA when she was almost 4 but she didn't like it there. I guess becuase the teacher in her class was q serious and didn't smile at all.

      Thks, gigima!
Do you know the criteria for acceptance?
I think for beginners so long as your gal can understand instructions & follow the routine in class they will accept. Most of the gals i know are accepted provided there is vacancy.

KSP, just pm you detailed breakdown results.

      MGS fought us head on!
mean score from MGS was 235.3 (mainstream + their own unique in-house GEP called \"Sophia Blackmore\" class)

mean score from RGPS was 235.6 (mainstream + GEP combined)

for Chinese quality pass (number of A*), both schools scored > 90%. Applaud!
for 4 subjects, both all girls schools beat other SAP schools + other GEP centres.

41.3 % scored 250 and above, from rgps.
Hi so for an average student from RGPS with score 235 which secondary school can she go to? I read that most popular schools cut off point is 250 & above. And what worries me is that RGPS has no affiliation.

      hi gigima,

      Yes, confirmed !

      last year 2011 -
Principal sent out letters that 2016 kicks off single session.

but before that come 2014 P1, your daughter will study two years (Jan 2014 to Nov 2015) at temporary location: 53 Mount Sinai road (Holland), as upgrading is done at Hillcrest road to expand current premises - build additional new building, new classroom, add new CCA facilities. Any inquiry, can contact Mr David Chew, Admin manager, tel: 6468-2757.

      2014 future P1 and P2 - study AFTERNOON session.

by end 2013, once Henry Park shift out, RGPS shift in.
Thanks phtthp a lot for your info 🙂

Hi i’m looking for a female piano teacher for my 4 year old dd. She’s just beginning to learn and we have no piano at home yet. Need a teacher near bukit timah area who’s patient and good with managing active kids. Prefer lesson time is sat or sun morning. thanks.

      Hi Mummies...

I read with great interest all your comments about getting your girls to school in time. I was an old girl but lived far away from Holland Grove Rd then, had to wake up at 5 ish am, was the first to board the school bus and last to alight..long ride to and from school.

I'm super KS, I suppose as my girl is only 14 months old but am hoping against hope that RGPS will move to the Bishan area after hearing about the horrific traffic congestion along Dunearn Rd!

Was actually thinking of sending daughter (yep...just started walking only!!!) to St Nic's which is much nearer to where I live but no chance coz we've no affiliation or live within 1 km of school. HAHA my friends who have bought properties close to RGPS just to get their daughters in there will shoot me for having such a thought...

Who knows....6 years down the road the move to Bishan may just happen??

RGPS will have their school building at Hillcrest upgraded by end 2015 and starts single session in 2016. Hence, it is unlikely to move in the near future.

Actually Bishan is considered near as compared to many who stay even further.

is it true that RGPS will start single session only in 2016? My dd is going to start p1 in 2014 and i was hoping she can go to class in the morning.
