The school I am doing it for does not really expect a lot from me IMHO. What I do is go to the school around 720 am. They have a reading series set, with levels from AA (for the very low) to M/N for the higher levels. There are 4-5 books per level so I start the level I am told the kids are in and then do 1 book for 2-3 weeks, depending on the difficulty level and then move on to other books on the same level. When we do 2-3 books on a level and I sense the children are confident of the level, we move to the next level.

We also have forms from the school to fill about each child's progress/reading capability. I guess the school monitors this and reassigns children as and when they see fit - that is they move them from one group to the other.

What about a reading programme? I am a FTWM and I do a reading prg at a school twice a week for about 30 mins each time. It takes some time to finish the 40 hours, but in between you can take 1/2 day or holiday (take CCL got 6 this year onwards) and clock in some hours which makes a big difference to the final 40 hrs.

they accept pr into their committee. but there is a limit to the number of PRs per committee. also, PR cannot hold office bearer positions.

PA allows permanent resident to join as volunteer.

Beside RC / NC, there are other committees available in PA and each committee serve different functions in the constituency

Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) plans and leads grassroots activities at the constituency level and oversees the RC/NC, CSC & CDEC. Community Centre/Club Management Committee (CCMC) maintains and manages the community centre/club and oversees SCEC, WEC, MAEC, IAEC & YEC. The CCC & CCMC can be considered as management team in the constituency and its membership is only through recommendation from advisor or senior constituency manager. Note that chairmen of RC/NC, CSC & CDEC sit in as executive member in CCC while chairmen of SCEC, WEC, MAEC, IAEC & YEC sit in as executive member in CCMC.

The other committees are as follows:
Senior Citizens' Executive Committee (SCEC) manages and plans activities for the senior citizens in the constituency.
Women's Executive Committee (WEC) offers opportunities for women to involve in community service. (Exclusively for woman)
Malay Activity Executive Committee helps to promote greater Malay participation in grassroots service. (Exclusively for Malay)
Indian Activity Executive Committee offers opportunities for Indian involvement in grassroots activities. (Exclusively for Indian)
Youth Executive Committee (YEC) promotes social cohesiveness, national consciousness and patriotism among youths. (Exclusively for youth between 15 to 35)

All the committees except NC/RC need not to residue in the constituency that they serve. Just visit the community centre and the senior constituency manager will match make you with the suitable committees. You can also request for the particular committees that you want to join.

For all committees except YEC, you will be placed in the committee as an observer for a few months so that the committees could assess your attendance in meeting and involvement before the advisor as committee member endorses you. For YEC, election will be held every two years (2009, 2011, 2013 etc) between July and October (depends on the date of the BGM).

It is all right that you have hidden agenda of joining grassroots so as to qualify for Phase 2B2. However, please join with the mindset of wanting to serve the community.

Through the exposure in executing the projects & activities, you could learn marketing skill (through banner, poster & invitation letter to schools), communication skill (through networking with other PA GROs and seeking corporate endorsement with NEA, NLB, SDS etc) and fund raising skill (through PAYM or CDC). When projects/activities are well received, this will boost your confidence and you will look forward to involve in more projects/activities.

Lastly, try to look out for committees which are ‘active’, you can do your research by to this website, http://www.pa.gov.sg/1227085333176.html. No point joining those ‘inactive’ committee, as you will attend ‘close door’ monthly meeting without any contribution to your community.

Anyway, back in my country, most have the perception that if you're from all girls' school, you're desperate to meet boys.. Vice versa with the boys' school. Haizzz...... :x

Can any parents share with me the P1 enrollment for ACS (I)? I have P1 enrollment to certain international schools may cost the parents up to 6 figure in the form of donation. I'm wondering if it's the same for ACS(I). My hubby and I are both foreigners. We have been researching on the P1 registration to local schools but looking at it, foreigners stand a very slim chance gaining entry (which I think is quite fair. Seats should be given to local students first).

1) christians/catholics/religion-based schools usually have a strong following cos parents with similar beliefs want their children to grow up in such environment.
2) considering these people taking up most of the first few phases (particularly phase 2B), there are limited seats left in Phase 2C for the 'commoner'.
3) affiliation reasons.

'a' is too little - then there will hardly be any neighbourhood schools left in SG . 3 and above then not consider neighbourhood schools ba. wink:
but even with that, people will hardly refer to CHIJ or St. Joseph's Institution Junior or Holy Innocent Pri as neighbourhood schools. :evil:

Wahhhh buds, can I send my boy to you... haiz, my boy been giving me lots of headache lately.


Teacher been giving me feedback that my boy likes to hold his classmate's hands, hug them, in short affectionate in class. This will not be a problem if he knows how to control his strengh. Often times, he ended up pulling his friend's hand until they fell, hugged them until their heads knocked each other and the other party wailed, dah dah dah.... I have repeatedly remind my boy not to touch his classmates and he'll tell me he just want to 'sayang' them. Haiz.. Lost count how many 'conversations' I did with my boy on this topic.

I tripped my hubs over before his Science Project presentation
(on purpose!) was about to commence, till he dropped his lame
volcano project on the floor. Not broken, but required some touch
ups.

Reason being... i already DID MY volcano presentation before he
did. Frankly, mine was way better and also very realistic with all
the different plasticine i used to mould the thing one whole day.
Mine erupted better too. Hahahaa! Lastly, i hated it when this
shortie boy kept glancing at me during lessons, when the board

Buds, I think when my boy goes P1, I will definitely go back to the workforce. But until then, have to sort out my boy's schooling first. I came to know P1 registration is ultra competitive here. And the schools I was eyeing does not have PV programme. *sweat*
