Dear all, my girl is due for pri 1 in 2015. We are nearer to nan hua but so far I got no luck with applying for pv or grl. It is making me so worried.

The subsequent choice would be clementi or Qifa but I am unsure which is more suitable.

And if we take the chance to ballot at nan hua in phase 2c and fail, will we end up with no set in both clementi and Qifa?

Anyone in the same dilemma as me?
Yeah NanHua at 2C is difficult, far more difficult than many other popular schools in different districts. If you dont want the stress than just go straight to Qifa or Clementi. Suggest you look at their CCAs and see if there are any activities you prefer in either school.

Also Qifa is on the West Coast side and Clementi is in the central area, so depending on which side you are staying, you may want to take into consideration traffic issues.

I am not sure how big is defined, if Clementi is big then other districts like Ang Mo Kio, Tampines will be Giant estates. I think to put into perspective, Pei Tong is fairly easy to get in, its just that almost everyone prefer to get into Nan Hua.

Certainly with the new BTOs and condos coming up, more schools should be built, if there are any grassroots here, perhaps this can be feedback up.

qms - Checked on onemap and it is the same.

titank - How do i check if i m needed to PV or be grassroot leader? Do I check with the school directly? In that case, I think RVPS is the nearest to me and likely to have a higher chance as well.
It is up to you if you want to be a PV or do grassroot work. For PV, the school has to accept your application. For grassroot, the constituency has to accept you too. I believe PV work tend to be on weekdays during working hours whereas grassroot work tend to be after office hours, weekends or public holidays where there is events for the community. I think for grassroot, you will definetly have to stay in the area, otherwise they may not accept the application?

I personally dont believe in sending my kid to a school that is too far away because getting to school by 7.20am in the morning is no joke if you have to drive a long distance, someone need to pick up the child after school too. So I wouldnt suggest Henry Park for you.

Also my impression of Henry Park is that the school has a lot of well to do kids (because of the district it is in), when I last checked the website, they were having an auction of paintings to raise funds. Do check out the culture of the school before you enrol. There may be such \"hidden costs\" that is involved.

Am glad more people are writing in to ST forum (today) about \"Too much priority given to children of alumni\":

      http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/plug-rent-and-register-loophole

IN MANY countries, renting a home is a perfectly acceptable way of having a roof over one's head (\"Let couples who own shoebox units buy resale flats\" by Mr Elgar Lee, and \"Parents 'renting' their way to popular schools?\"; both published on Tuesday).

Singaporeans should be more open to renting as a way of living.

For shoebox apartment owners, one way to buy a new flat is to sell off the shoebox unit and rent a flat for a while. The couple can then have the flexibility of looking for a suitable flat, finishing the paperwork and renovating the purchased flat.

As for parents who rent flats near popular schools, I am very concerned that they are portrayed as doing something wrong, even illegal.

As the mother of a young child, I have noticed that whenever someone gets priority access to a popular school via any means, many others cry foul even if the manner of registration is perfectly legal.

There may be many reasons why parents prefer to rent a home near a school instead of buying it. Perhaps the home they are living in cannot be sold, or their finances are currently tied up.

      Khoo Boon Lee (Madam)

      http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/find-out-why-parents-rent-homes-near-schools

bona fide renter should not be penalised. scam and sham rental should be punished

It is very difficult to check who own a home and who rent, take up too much resources from school. It will also be a violation of privacy, if the parents are staying with their own parents and dont own the house then how to judge? This renting thing is not new and existed for a long time already.

I think the main issue is more with the alumni, it is creating an \"in\" group, where generations after generations go to the same school, creating an in and out group.

I have friends who doesnt care about what schools their children goes to and I am considered too KS for them. But they dont know what they are missing. Alot of good schools are almost fully filled by time it comes to phase 2B. Anyway, just griming.

Actually I dont see what is the issue with renting. Renting is not a crime and is a perfect valid way of living. In many countries, people rent their homes not own them. It gives more flexibility when one change jobs or need to be near elderly parents later on.

      Hi all,

I had failed in RMPS, and now the schools vacancies that are near my hse are all taken up. I am fainting . Now left BRPS n CPS which are more than 2km away. What should I do :nosebleed:
I think I rather you try for Cantonment PS, its a new estate and a new school so the principal should be trying hard to drive the school to do better in all areas.

Dont have a good impression of Blangah Rise. ( I used to live in Telok Blangah a few years back)

    • RE: 2015 P1 Registration Exercise for 2016 In-Take

My goodness, accidentally stubble on this thread, its already up!

Have been watchin all the registration stats, so stressful.

Am in the west side, so 1st choice is Nanhua, but looking at the stats, am opening up to consider Radin Mas, River Valley and whatever that is more secured at 2B. Have heard some good things about Cantonment, but its a new school so really untested and their first batch of PSLE will only be out in 2016, too late for me to evaluate.

Over the years, more and more pple seems to be going for 2B? Becos parents are more informed now? so stressful

Yes 4 blocks of the Parc is within 1 km, also it is a higher high rise (much higher than botannia and carabelle) so the population is larger. I think its not so much how many SC and foreigners are in the estate but that my guess is however lesser SC there are in these condos, they will want their kids to be in NH. I have two friends in Carabelle and all their kids goes to NH.

Also dont forget there is Faber Crest and Parkwest, I also have a friend in Parkwest and her kids goes to NH too. Even though it is very old, it is within stone throw of NH and is very much cheaper than the other condos (in terms of psf).

I can imagine that competition will just ever tougher with Hundred Trees being ready by next year (already those who bought will be eligible for 1km). Hong Leong Gardens (next to Hundred Trees) have also been enbloc and the plot of land opposite Regent Park right next to NH has also been sold awhile ago and will certainly be a high rise condo.

Actually my concern is how are the kids going to study when the new condo is being built right next to the school.

Anyway, when my turn comes in 2years time, I may just send my boy to Clementi primary to avoid all the stress.

    • RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

I think in another 6 years, we may see the tier 2 schools catching up academically. Since the PRs have to now spread to the other schools. I believe many of the PR kids are smart and have the resources to do well (which is why the parents can be PR in the first place). So overall, I think over time it will spread things out.
