I'm sadden to learn that we are not that great after all, and our mere existence is depends very much on the big fish, which what matter most to them is in their own interest and will leave immediately when not enough small fish to feed them.
To them, business is just business and nothing personal.
It seem that all these years we are not growing to be a more sustainable nation, and in fact we become more and more rely on them to boost our economy.
Actually, what can we do?
We have no natural resources and our land is so small that very soon it will become a dense concrete jungle with only tiny green spots, known as park, scattering here and there. And when that happened, we will have no more construction industries to contribute to our economy.
Now, all I can hope for is that my children can grow up to be strong and independence, and more successful in life than me.

RE: Are you ready for 7 million people on tiny Singapore?
Just relax:
There will always be an insufficient domestic market to sustain economic growth, so the population will always has to be on the rise if population growth is the way to boost economy. The increase in population size mitigates the consequences and effects of an aging population. There is an economies of scale issue here where because Singapore is small the greater density can lead to a mitigation of costs increases that will continue to happen.
There is also an insufficient domestic market to sustain Singapore's current rate of economic growth and so if u do nothing, eventually you will start to deflate economically leading to a lower quality of life in an overcrowded environment.
I am not sure as to what is the right population figure as it is crystal ball gazing at best. But unless you have a time travel machine, the best you can do is to look into the crystal ball and hope you are seeing what you hope to see!
I hope your children can be as relax as you in 2030. -

Is Population Growth a Ponzi Scheme?
The basic pitch of those promoting population growth is straightforward in its appeal: \"More is better.\" Joseph Chamie, who has spent a lifelong career as a demographer, including 12 years of service as the director of the United Nations Population Division, finds that more is not necessarily better. -

Irrelevant:
Taiwan population density is as high if not higher. The most populated are in the cities area, and with the lowest TFR. Google for taiwan population density, and you see what I means.
What do you think Taiwan (TFR=0.9), which a less dense population than Singapore (TFR=1.2), have a lower TFR?goldfish2013:
I believe in the law of nature, if there is more room for population to grow, the nation birth rate will increase, may be due to lower housing cost (because more space), less congestion & competition, and less stress, just like in the 80's.

On the contrary, with over population, higher cost and high stress of living, its only natural that the birth rate decrease. Aren’t we experiencing it now?
Actually, I more concern about the livelihood of our future generation. -

On second thought, if the fish tank is overpopulated, why it can still attract other fish to it? Unless, they are arowana.

Fish tank too small to support the fish population. Put in more fish, the fish will die.
