      Hi Zac’s mum,

Thanks for your kind sharing, as always.

I searched in ACSJ website and found the mentioned Thoburn program and also the Hinch program. I believe the latter is for not so bright boys. It seems both programs are provided after-school. In normal school hours, all the kids will be taught at the same level. While in 2 after-school hours (Mon & Thurs), some boys will get customized education.

Can ask how is the percentage for Thoburn & Hinch programs? Also it’s only for P5 & P6?

      Thanks again.

My son is in P1 and I understand there will not be any streaming exercise throughout his 6 years in ACSJ, a new exercise introduced by the new principle.
I am a bit worried as the kids may not get educated at the level they need. This applies to both the brighter ones and the not so bright ones.
Will any parent here understand the consideration/reasoning of the school? As streaming is a common practice among SG primary schools.
      Thanks.

I thought this is an MOE directive. Just that other schools are taking longer to implement it.

My DS is in P2 and I am glad that the SA2 marks will no longer be used to segregate them into higher-ability vs mixed-ability P3 classes. I know my kid is a late bloomer, so I have no objection. Maybe it’s those parents who think their kids are HA but no superior resources allocated to them? There is the Thoburn program at P4 for such HA kids.

For the other end of the spectrum (the slower ability ones) - I am aware that the school provides pull-out lessons during each subject: lower ratio and more personalized attention. For those kids who are really struggling with the basics, I am also aware that the school provides after-school remedial lessons, as well as LSP and LSM programs.

These are done very discreetly. Perhaps that’s why you have not heard of them.

To me, I prefer this system, which is “customized” per child and depending on which subject they are weak in. Better than “labelling” and ostracizing the kid based on his overall score. In some neighborhood schools, the kids in the lower classes are so demoralized and give up because The HA class seems so far away & in a world of their own. At least in ACSJ the form class can still have normal friendships across the strata.

But have compassion on the ACSJ teachers because their job is not easy with such customized programs.

Dear parents, can I ask on the academic requirements on ACSJ, as my 2 friends gave me totally different information.

One saying his P3 boy in ACSJ got hardly no homework.
Another one saying his P1 boy needs 2 hours everyday for homework & review, and teachers are very demanding

Now not sure which one is the more "common" case for ACSJ… Thanks a lot.

No, u can't conclude like that.

You still have to go through Phase 2A2 and 2B, before come to 2C.

What if in 2B : there are many who balloted, but didn't get In ? As u know, there can be many who applied via Methodist church organisation.

Then end up these 2B unsuccessful ones will spill over into 2C, to have another attempt at 2nd chance, hence raising the demand in 2C during less than 1 km balloting, making 2C more competitive ?
This is a possible scenario. But if we are talking about \"possibility\" based on current information, the chance should still be better. 😄

From this year’s results up to 2A1, it seems the chances for ACSP & ACSJ at Phase 2C are better than last year?

Called MOE hotline to ask before.

They don't care when exactly you move in but your NRIC must show the correct address on the day you register. Which means you need the Tenancy Agreement or Completion of Sale done, then change NRIC address before you register. After you get the seat, you should be living in that address till end of P2.
I just called MOE again to confirm this, and they gave the same answer. We can still change address this month, as long as our NRICs show the new address \"at the point\" of registration, which is 25-Jul for Phase 2C.

It is not new. Confirmed it was there for last year's registration because my DS was affected. As for the year before that (when the 30-month rule first kicked in), that one I dunno.

They will update the exact date every year based on the start date of Phase 1.

I've written to MOE to confirm this, but from their reply, seems it's still allowed to change address now.

      Dear XXX:

Thank you for your latest email of 5 July 2017.

We would like to share that for the 2017 Primary One (P1) Registration Exercise, the address used should be the parents’ official residential address as reflected on their NRICs at the point of the registration.

      Dear Mr Law,

Thanks for your reply. I understand we need to stay 30months after registration.
But, can we still change home address now (e.g. before 25 Jul) to register for this year’s Phase 2C? As the MOE FAQs doesn’t specify it clearly.

Dear parents, can ask how to compare Jurong Primary & Princess Elizabeth Primary? Our home is just next to JPS, and at the edge of 1KM of PEPS. Thanks!

Dear parents, can ask whether we still can change home address now (e.g. before 25 Jul) to register for this year’s Phase 2C? As we are still considering whether to rent a place for 30 months for kids’ school… Thanks
