Hi

May i know the Math curriculum in Sota for year 1? Are the topics covered in SOTA the standard topics covered in Sec 1? Primes, HCF, mom, approximation and estimation, real numbers, algebra, etc?

Not a parent but I got a place in YLL. A for PW, took H2 Literature as contrasting.

Thank you for your reply and Congrats! How about those you know who got into medicine? Are their PW A too - to show the applicant can work well in a team and is able to present well?

I know of children with PW B who has both NTU and NUS offers. As long as your rank points is above the university cutoff and u meet their BMAT cutoff (for LKC), U will be offered an interview.

LKC takes into consideration your A level, Bmat, referee report, personal statements and interview in issuing you an offer. However, at YLL, the considerations are different. Once u reached the interview stage, in previous years, YLL will assess u based on your interviews at the 5 MMI stations and your SJT. But this year, there is no SJT and only 2 stations, so the assessment is purely guess work??
Thank you! Good info for those applying next year.

Once you are called up for medicine interview, you are considered a good student. There are certain personality traits they look for in a doctor and we won’t know the matrix of that.

Getting into YLL or LKC does not make one better than the others. Likewise getting into medicine does not make one less deserving than the perfect all rounders who are ousted. Everyone is a champion in their own rights.
      Totally agree.

Hi! Greyskies, Medicine is a top choice course for many would be medicine aspirant. It has always been very competitive.

We only know the surface news but many of these students know much more of the selection processes. There is many variations in play each years. This year came as a shock to them as they saw diversification in the process. So many good ones were out and instead those averages were in.

May be jovial personality was the traits they were looking for in this year's selection.
Hi Desmond
I don't think it's fair to say\" so many good ones were out and instead those averages were in\". How can anyone be average when the difference in RP is just 1.25?

By the way, my friend's daughter got in last year.... so it's not that this year they are choosing \"jovial\".

This year there was considerable diversity in NUS medicine selection processes. Many superb candidates were surprised that they were being ousted out despite their best grades, leadership and testimonials.

My son is still in the assessment stages at NTU. His medicine was put in waiting list. For the time being his second choice course (Biological Sciences) which offer a medicine pathway by NTU-Duke-NUS, needs to go for few rounds of interview. If successful has to take an entrance test before qualifying for the course.

Our kids have put many hours of studying and burning midnight oils in preparation for many exams. Hoping for a better life, able to take care of their aging parents later, to give back to society and our country, Singapore. It seemed the hurdles for their aspiration is make harder and mentally stressful.

It's like Carp leaping over Dragon's Gate. According to Chinese mythology, the Dragon’s Gate is located at the top of a waterfall cascading from a legendary mountain. Many carp swim upstream against the river’s strong current, but few are capable or brave enough for the final leap over the waterfall. If a carp successfully makes the jump, it is transformed into a powerful dragon.

Hopefully all is well and ends well.
Every year there are candidates with superb RP, testimonials, leadership positions who do not get selected. This year is no different.
