Can help with these questions. Thanks
For the first one, the best answer is (2)

although more accurately, it should be light (Sun) --> electrical (circuit) --> light + heat (bulb)

solar energy is not one of the forms of energy that they learn, they learn light and heat

For the second one, I think the best answer is (1)

light does not affect rate of evaporation, gravity is acting on both towels, and the exposed surface area of both towels are the same. Towel A has less water as the water dripped down from the towel, while for Towel B, the water remained on the towel due to its placement on the plate.

      Follow. Newbie here.

Is it true that the current principal at Tampines Pri was from St Hilda's previously? Google not showing... 😂

No, she was formerly the principal of East View Primary https://tampinespri.wordpress.com/2011/09/27/message-from-principal/

The previous St Hilda's Primary principal retired

can’t remember how it was done at the end of P2, i think only the last 2 classes P3s are the HA ones, the rest are mixed.

at the end of P4 there is subject based banding, to determine if the child sits for standard or foundation subjects. there is also GEP (screening at P3).

if i am not mistaken, at P5, they have GEP, HA mainstream, then banded for subjects (Math?).

      my 2cents

      - b/w Tampines and Junyuan, do you have a preference? Because if you miss SHPS at 2C, then likely will have to go for JYPS since TPS typically fills up at 2C. We were in the same spot 5 years ago, and took a gamble balloting for SHPS. 70+ applicants for 30+ spots.

about your son...unless he has been diagnosed, to me it sounds like a typical 6-7 yo boy? we had a pretty rough year with my DS in P1 this year, I had so many calls from the FT. So yes, the school is very supportive. P1 trs are especially patient, I feel. SHPS is a big school and they have a lot of resources. It might seem a little impersonal, though.

as for the environment...I see some parents in my DS class talking about enrichment classes, assessment books etc. My kids don’t have any other than MT tuition. This year they did away with CA for P3-P5 and I can tell you it’s such a load off my shoulders. P1 only had exams at the end of the year and only a small test (of which they had several practices). I feel the trs do give a lot of work but the work is marked quickly and returned to the kids. Whether it’s stressful, I feel it depends on you 🙂 i can’t comment on the CL part though, but based on the discussion in the chat group, seems like they do a lot.

and JYPS is merging with EVPS in 2019. Their P1 intake next year will increase. Not sure if this will affect your decision in any way.

Saw a question in one of DD's assesment books which she said came out today. A simple question but she was a little confused by it. The question was to state what material the rod(in a circuit, electromagnet) was made of. She said some of her friends put Metal while others were more specific and said iron/steel. She is afraid the markers would penalise for not stating specifically. Anyone know the correct answer and if both answers are acceptable?

      Thanks

      iron/steel/magnetic material
definitely not metals as copper/aluminium are both metals but can't be magnetised into an electromagnet

from my understanding, steel cannot be used as it will be permanently magnetised. the main thing about the electromagnet is it can be switched on and off. however, this is not in syllabus (previous years usually only state metal)

      Hi all,

Thanks a lot for all ur good words, advice and comforting words.
Had the most long and tiring day. Son still unwell. I am not worried for myself but for the 12yr old who has put in so much of hard work for 1 full year goes down in drain in split seconds.
As of now will just wait and have some faith. Thank u all
no, don’t say that! a new chapter of his life is about to begin 🙂 so it did not go to waste at all!

Hi all just need help and advice. If anyone been thru this situation ans can let me know what happens.

Son went for MT 2day. I received a call he was down with high fever. From there the nightmare started. He vomitted and couldnt give his paper.

May i know if he is not able to attend this and science exam how moe grade the kids. Does he still have school selection
how is your son faring now? if he is still not well, suggest to stay home and rest to avoid any further stress to all parties

      1) Go doctor, get an MC stating that he is unwell for the date of the exam.

      2) if possible, contact the FT today to update, if not, first thing tmr morning call to update the school that he is not able to sit for the exam.

If you can contact the FT, they would actually be the best person to advise you.

if your child is feeling better already, still should get an MC stating that he is fit for the exam before he should be allowed to sit tomorrow. Most schools would prepare an extra room for this.

How SEAB calculates the scores is very much a mystery (to me) but I heard they will request for the prelims and other relevant marks to do a projection. Will still be able to proceed.

anyways, hope your son feels better soon! stay hydrated!
