    • RE: Mobile phones are detrimental to your DDs and DSs learning

Like all parents, I struggle with the same issue.

I give a prepaid card to DS who is P4. Limited data. I also set a timer to turn on wifi from 5-7pm. My DD is conscious about crossing the data limit on her phone so this kind of work.

Kids are like us, they need to socialise. Most hrs are spend in school, they need to stay โ€˜connectedโ€™ too and this social media thingy is not going to go away. Removing it completely s going to make them yearn for the forbidden fruit. Parents must also set good examples, eg no phones at meal time, look up when the kid is talking to you, time with our kids are more valuable than posting FB!

Iโ€™m working hard at it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi Gwen, what school is this? Congrats on getting a WL

      St Margaret's

For most, DSA is to top schools, for some of us like in my case when DC doesn't fare as well academically hovering around 200, being able to \"select\" the school be it Normal stream, I am v thankful ๐Ÿ™

I just hope subsequently she'll blossom in the right environment with good school support.

Hi , in the CO letter, it stated that you must still be eligible to attend a course offered in our school based on PSLE. What is the condition then? Is achieving the min 200 already eligible to get into the school. Will the school reject students if their psle COP fall below the sch standard COP?

Understand from past posts that as long as the child gets 200, can get into the school with the CO. Doesnt' matter if the child PSLE score is below cut off point for the posting exercise.

If it's below 200, then CO no longer valid.

Hi hi....my DD received a WL. It says on the letter that ....however, you must still be eligible to attend a course offered in our school..... and footnote to say ie Express, Normal (Academic), Normal (Technical) courses.

So as long as the school as both Express and Normal and eventually a place does comes up, like in the case of a WL, the child will get a place in the school, this is how I read it.

Recently, word has passed around, at least among some of my friends, that during the MGS sport trials as well as the interview, the teachers and coaches asked the students if RGS NYGH and MGS picked them, which school would they pick. If the student said they would pick any school apart from MGS, the coach had asked them to leave immediately. Is this the case for all applicants, or just a baseless rumour? Would just like to clarify this matter, for the benefit of more information out here.
By the way, I am not an MGS applicant.
      :lightrod: :lightrod:/quote]

My girl went for one of MGS sports trial. The coach put them through drills, watched each of them play, rotate them around the courts so that each and everyone had a fair chance. Towards the end, he asked the approx 15-18 attendees to be honest ....who does not have MGS as their first choice, couple of the girls including mine put up their hands. Of course when I heard of it later, my heart dropped :scared:

However I was not mad at her, she was being honest. The coach did not asked them to leave, I didn't think they were made to feel uneasy, at least that's what I think she felt. She completed the remaining part of the trial. Just wanted to share our experience.

Each school has limited number they can admit for each sport, they have to be careful who to make the offer to, they also need to strategize so that they will have enough players to form the team. It's only through trials, interviews, questioning in one form or another that they can sieve out the genuine applicant. I'm sure if the candidate has the talent they are looking for and the right attitude, they might in return try to 'woo' them instead. It is afterall in the interest of the schools to find the best candidates who can play for the school.

Good luck to everyone still waiting anxiously for the result. :rahrah:
