RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
hi limws1!
please correct me if i’m wrong. does all children who are dyslexic also have difficulty in learning language?
does your daughter have difficulty in learning grammar and writing composition?
my daughter’s english tutor advised me not to send my daughter who are autistic (very mild) to sota.
her tutor does not think IB is suitable for her as she has to complete 6 years of rigorous academic program.
it will be to stressfull for her as she won’t be able to quit after 4 or 5 years of secondary school, unlike her peers who can go to poly after o level.
any input? -

RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
thanks, dasalo!
I called sota admission offc today, the lady who answered my call said sota does accept students with special needs.
During the TA, the child has to bring a medical cert explaining the condition (severe / mild).
The school does not have any teacher who are certified to teach children with special needs, so the child has to be in high functioning spectrum and able to study in mainstream school.
I also asked about the exemption of Mother Tongue subject, as Sota is using IB program for its academic curriculum.
If the child has been exempted from MT since primary school, exemption can be re-applied for secondary level to MOE.
Although no second language subject, the child still have to take a subject (sorry, I forgot the name) about cultural study.
In year 5&6, the child has to take second language (basic level) with a choice of German or (sorry, I also forgot about the other one!).
Hope this help! -

thanks, kiasu newbie!
when u say 'if i'm not wrong...' , is that mean u've heard about sota students who are children with special needs?
i actually read this forum from page 1
i could not find any discussion about sota students who have any physical or psycological challenge.
anyway, let's just hope they have the same fair chance as their peers. -

Hi, everyone!
I’m new to this forum.
I’m a mother with 2 girls in P2 & P4.
Just wondering if Sota accept special needs students, like adhd, mild autism or dyslexia and are talented in arts.
