Perhaps some schools no longer place the students into top 3 classes etc… if they do, quite obvious that usually kids who cleared the first round are from these 3 classes. The first round is based on p3 syllabus so nothing out of norm. If the kid goes for prep class, he or she still might not cleared first round if he or she is not of high ability. Prep class might expose kids to more challenging questions but if the kids can’t absorb then it’s still a waste of money. But no prep can teach a kid to clear 2nd round, GEB is very confident of it, so no doubt for them if any kid clear becos of prep into GEP. A kid might struggle with maths but very talented in English, can clear first round too. Nobody knows how GEB finally select the kids from the second round, but basically ariound 400 from 4000 kids will cleared 2nd round. GA papers will be foreign to most and rumor is that kid birth month also place a factor in it. Eg: a kid born in Jan vs a kid born in Dec. But this is only hearsay but it does make sense right? Boys are better in logic and maths so usually more boys will clear than girls. There are some trails that you can tell if a kid is suitable for GEP, he or she might not be scoring full marks or doing very well in mainstream but suitable for GEP. Similarly he or she is doing very well in mainstream but not suitable to be in GEP. Example, the kid is very strong in his results, a good students that follow the teacher instruction, learn well and hardworking but not suitable for GEP vs a kid that is Creative, always challenging some theories, fast learner and able to link the concept to other application well but not following teacher instruction and not scoring as well. To sum up, GEP is not premium or more superior than mainstream, it’s more of suitability. Just to highlight that if you want your kid to score well in PSLE, mainstream will be better option, GEP don’t really prep for PSLE, don’t expect drilling, kids in GEP is supposed to a self learner and independent. If parents helps too much then it defeat the purpose of putting them in GEP too, in the end, the kid learns nothing from mainstream and nothing from gep too cos parents tends to over help in GEP as they still want the kids to score well.

RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection
is it common that first reaction to your kid is don’t want to change school? so far those that go into the program, majority in his school said don’t want to change school. And if yes, eventually how to convince them? reason for not changing is they like the current school and their friends.

RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection
Rulang called parents individually to inform today and gives out white envelopes to thank those who participated and yellow/brown envelopes to those who got in. My boy got in but he said 2 classmates were crying, not because they didnt get in but because they are scare that their parents will scold them. He felt very sad for them

RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection
Heard that in the past, majority in GEP are kids born in the first 3 months of the year, therefore, they do take into consideration of the month that the kid was born?

RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection
Personally I don't think GEP or PSLE needs to revamp cos my kids never go for any GEP Pre class, enrichment, yes but mainly becos mummy too busy and lazy to teach so I outsourced and of cos if I teach, I think our relationship will be soured
There isn't any preparation or much talk about this GEP screen in schools or among group of friends at all (some parents don't even know their kids took this screening in school), think only this thread, that's why most parents come in here occassionally to find out what's GEP all about. Its more like, have, have, don't have, don't have. No intention of moving to another school too. A bit of extra spice in our normal routine life if have, that's all.
Btw, my kid's school didn't even put in any envelope, just pass it to kid like normal parent's notice.
Similarly for PSLE, it has been on going for decades, why need to do anything about it, it's more of parents expectation isn't it? If you just take it like any other examination, do your student's part of learning and doing homework, the student can manage the PSLE like our times. However if parents expect their kids to score 268 and above, that's another story. Again parents' expectation.
My 2 cents worth of thought

RE: Rulang Primary
seems like Rulang thread is not a active thread? My son going to pri 1 and I am quite lost, wonder if there is any forum like some other schools that parents can post to the school? Received call from the school bus operator and she told me that the pick up point will be at the bus stop. Quite disappointed as it is a distant, crossing the park and canal with no shelter and how can school bus be at the public bus stop? if the school bus is early, how can they wait there and if my son is late for a couple of mins due to unforseen circumstances, then the school bus cannot wait at all? Tried nego with school bus lady but she refused, any parents has the same situation?
