    • RE: What is being a KiasuParent?

      super_dad:
Was talking to a friend, and realized that different people have different understanding of what it means to be a kiasuparent. To some, it is the need to have your children be #1 in school. The perpetual chase for that higher grade and better schools. Frankly to me, I am more laid back....the only thing that I am \"kiasu\" about is for my kid to be better than I was when I was small. Essentially, just to give them a better chance in nuturing them and preparing them for adult life.

Share your thots and definition here.
For Me, I am kiasu because I want the best for my children. However, I do not need them to be #1 in school. I just want them to be normal children that have wrong answers and will learn that there are times when being wrong is fine. at the end of day. I find that acedamically is not so important. I find that the part that we got to built on is character building. And in my circle of friends, we all send our children to the same classes. So I guess I am not the only one here that send my children to many enrichment classes.

Also, it does not talk up a lot of time. Otherwise, they will just be watching TV programs at home.

Yes yes...most importantly is that they enjoy the lessons themselves :)....

      Enjoy your stay here!
Hmm.. can i check if anybody have bigger children here that can give some insights of whether all these enrichment classes are good or not good since your children are grown up already. It will be good to hear valuable comments on these.

Hi Kitty.....didn't know hello kitty got kids...:P

Welcome to the forum! Tell us more about yourself..
Hi superdad, okay. I am mother of 3 children 4, 3, and 1 year old. I am actively searching for lessons and enrichment to let them attend. I am a true believer that foundation is very important. Once all these strong foundation are set. The rest of the \"education journey\" should be smooth sailing. So as long as they love going to classes. I will love to bring them. šŸ™‚

      Mincy,

I am not a SAHM. I would say I have very good home support.
My mum takes care of all my children with the help of helpers.
      ...

OK... hellokitty now overtakes everyone of us who dare lay claim as the ultimate KiasuParent. Impressive... most impressive! I'm humbled by your dedication to your children. I don't even dare to calculate how much you are paying for all those courses.

      Hi ChiefKiasu,

You know what, I am sending because each of the program have their own skills sets given. So I really do not know at the end of the day if it does helps till they grow bigger since my children are all so young.

wah! Are you a SAHM, hello kitty? I am very impress. how do you handle 3 kids and sent them to the classes at the same time.

I sent one kid to 2 enrichment class and I v tired already. What is Jelic ? How's I Genius? How is it different from Shichida?
      Mincy,

I am not a SAHM. I would say I have very good home support.
My mum takes care of all my children with the help of helpers.

Many classes like phonics, piano, and art, The teachers comes to my house to teach.

The only travelling is Berries, Shichida, I Genius, Jelic and CMA.

So I am like a driver on Sat and Sun Morning and is pretty draining for me. but then again, those are the perfect time slots and arrangement. unless a better one comes along.

Jelic is under MPM maths whereby the child will go there and play boxes of games (min3box) per lesson and then they use their thinking skills to complete the games. Actually I have all these games myself but then really do not have the time to play as this games really need time to plan.

I genius is also a right brain training school. It used to be called Epoch if you know. Material wise, they are far lesser. For me, it is another training for my children as I really do not have time to carry out any activities with them.

    • RE: How much $$$ do you spend on your Pre-schooler?

      Hi hi,

I am a new member here.

Here is my list and I guess I should be consider quite kiasu here.

      I have 3 children. 4yrs, 3yrs and 1yr old.

From 2 to 3 mths of age and till now, my children are all attending shichida class once a week

Other enrichment for my 4 yr old.
      Mental arithmetic - CMA
      Swimming
      Phonics class
      Art Class
      Jelic
      I Genius
      Berries - chinese
      Gym
      Piano

And for the 3 yr old, another additional is I genius. As age is a constraint for the rest of the classes and time to ferry. When he was younger at 18mths, He attended the enrichment class 2 times aweek.

At the end of the day, I believe I am very kiasu. However, I do not want to take any chances as children grow up only once and once they pass that so call "window of opportunity". It is passed. I think everybody do hope the best for their own children if time is not an issue.

If I have enough time, I think I could do more.
