Hi all,


Am new here and I have a boy who has been diagnosed with GDD since 2yr old. Have went KKH for Speech Therapy and ICCP program during his childcare from 2.5 -4yrs old. Speech Therapy was helping a little but they can only allocate once a mth time slot which I felt cannot do much hence I dropped out of Speech Therapy after2 yrs. He is now at 5.5 yrs old can say simple sentences with 3-6 words each but I don't understand why he is having difficulty expressing himself like telling us what he did in school etc? He also cannot really differentiate between yesterday, today, tomorrow. After the childcare, he went on to mainstream K1 and currently in K2. He does not have difficult with his academic work but speech wise still slower than his peers probably 1-1.5 yrs behind in speech wise.

One thing I noted is he can understand instructions to do stuffs etc but why cant he understand when I ask him what he did at school etc. I have been a sahm ever since he has been diagnosed with GDD by PD but I have not followed up with PD after I dropped him out of the KKH Speech Therapy. I am working with him everyday spending approximately 2 hrs on reading, talking etc and he attends school for 4 hrs a day. But he does not seem to understand well when I ask him questions related to the story etc (similar to comprehension style). I have been getting very depressed over this and I am very worried because he is due to enter P1 next year and I don't know if he could cope with it :(.

The childcare ICCP teacher did ask me to consider getting pte speech therapist for him to work on his speech but its such a crazy rate at $150-$180/hr and they recommend having it twice a week which is quite a big amount and does not guarantee whether results will be good. I am afraid that if we spend so much $ and then end up with little or almost no results then its like pouring $ down the drain and with a sole breadwinner which is my hb it does not make financial sense.

Does anyone here have any information on kids if being diagnosed with GDD and if cannot cope in mainstream schools will there be any other alternative schools for them? I am getting very worried now because he has only 1 yr left to develop on his understanding for speech wise.
