The ability to write ultimately determines their score as the students are only as good as the words they put on paper, no matter how much they claim to understand the text.Hi, what do u mean by score Cs? i would expect B or higher?deardear07:
My pleasure!
Definitely, and these kids will score Cs (or Bs if they are lucky).
Reading is the most basic, then comes understanding and analysing what you have read to form a critical opinion.
And you're right.
One must be able to translate these thoughts onto paper. The depth and scope of these thoughts are crucial. But ultimately you must be able to express them fully and clearly. The marker can only grade you based on what he reads, so you will definitely lose marks if you are not able to bring your points across effectively.
You can read my reply here regarding how marks are lost in Comprehension. I think it applies to Literature as well.

If tutoring language for Sec sch, how do u approach? Via English or Literature? Do u tutor upp pri too?
For the O Levels, I teach English and Literature as separate subjects. Only in IP the two are combined as one subject, and then I'd tutor accordingly. But the fees will differ from the O Levels session.
And yes, I do tutor Upper Primary. I teach from Primary to Junior College - English, Literature and Chinese. Almost all of my students will stay with me from Primary to JC, or Secondary if they choose to go Poly after that.
Hello D3@n,
Sorry just stumbled onto this thread today. Not sure how to PM you. May I know more about your Literature tuition classes?
Thanks!
