NYGH doesn’t seem to be ethnically diverse. Not sure if the students there mix with students of other races.

RE: Why so many "brand" schools in Bukit Timah area?
Maybe they should move HCI and NYPS to the heartland where there might be more take-up from the Mandarin-speaking heartland.

Clan member is better because you have multiple schools to chose from. If PV then you can only apply to the school that you volunteer at.

RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
Problems:
Phase 2A- Alumni who don’t contribute anything. also these are not private schools so why should some people get preference? also, the alumni contribution is miniscule and can’t compare to the tax dollars going in.
Phase 2B- Church, clan and affiliates? in my mind same issue as Alumni. they should get preference and they can fund the school…totally.
PV? Discriminates working families who can’t afford the luxury of taking time off to be a… traffic warden…? forget the nonsense about "knowing the school". ask how many PVs actually don’t apply under this phase because they "know" the school and were dissapointed.
essentially 2A and 2B are important to ensure the traditions of the school are carried on and kids receive the same sort of values through their education…ie this is code for let’s not invite people who are not like "us" into our schools. "oh my gosh, what will happen to our cultural dance, golf and tennis teams"? will this reduce the average PSLE score? just pure social exclusiveness. wanting to keep "them" away.
preference for 1km? well, let’s keep it so people can rent, buy, squat etc next to the schools they like. at least the folks who have $$$ but don’t have a religion, no time for PV or Grassroots work (because they are earning $$$), are clan-less are not discriminated against. -
RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
allumni should get priority but they should fund the school totally without tax dollars from the general public.
