      zbear:
I like to know more about Corporate Bonds n hope that those who are knowledgeable can share.

Are they high risk? I was told that they are safe n gives high yields. They are good for short term n has liquidity. Is it true? The only risk if the company goes bust but if you buy blue chip company, it shld be safe?

      Thanks.

The only SAFE BONDS are sovereign bonds issued in the country's native currency. Corporate Bonds even if rated AAA are still risky.

    • RE: Would you pay for university fees of your kids?

I want to contribute my 2 cents, university fees is the lowest priority for parents.

First, we don’t even know if the kids can get into university (hate to prick the bubble)
Second, if he/she is super brilliant, scholarship will be chasing after him/her
Third, a lot of local bank is offering study loan at quite affordable interest rate.
Fourth, you can use CPF to pay for it if it is local university

What sort of grant does MOH provide for doing overseas med school? Care to provide more details?
NONE. That is why even the president scholarship only offer those doing medicine to pursue their MBBS locally at NUS

    • RE: Estate tax after a person passed away

      mistral77:
If there a difference with doing a will and not doing one?

      There is a big difference.

It determines whether a Grant of Probate (if there is a Will) or Grant of Letters of Administration (in Intestacy) will be issued by the court to handle the distribution of assets.

If the will is valid and up to date a Grant of Probate can be issued and it will speed up the distribution od assets.

If not a letters of administration will be issued and the distribution of assets can take place between 12 to 18 months. Will your beneficiary be able to survive on their own during the 12 to 18 months period?

    • RE: Personal Accident Insurance

personal accident is important because during our financial productive years (hope no one pan tang) the chances to die from accident means is the highest. And for couple of hundreds of dollars you can get a few hundred K of coverage.

But the other important thing in PA is the medical coverage. If you are the clumsy type who always fell and trip and like to visit Chinese physician like Eu Yang Sang, PA Medical coverage is god send.

For wealth accumulation/growing, 2.78%pa for a 10years period is considered low, although it is risk-free.
For wealth preservation, 2.78%pa may be decent, not forgetting the risk appetite of the holder.

2.78% per annum is decent. The annualized inflation of Singapore is about 2.27% (data from the stats board) so it is earning 0.51% higher. Although no one will be against more return.

I disagree about property being a good retirement investment.

Those who purchased private property in 2007 is crying now. They have not even break even.

    • RE: Home contents insurance coverage

Some of them provides coverage on personal accident, which I think is highly valuable as most accident happens at home. One of my niece fell and broke her arm, her parent file claims against the personal accident plan within the home insurance and was compensated.

    • RE: How to help my kids to develop a good hobby ?

I just send my son to a competitive swimming school and after each practise session, he will be too tired to be naughty and give me any trouble at home. The constant exercise is also doing his self esteem good, he is the tallest in his class and I heard getting a lot of attention from the gals too. LOL.

Prudential agents have the highest commission rates in the market.

My company's medical insurance is from Prudential n they sucks!!!!!

You mean those employee's benefit we enjoy as employed personnel from our company?

Well sometimes it is not the plan that sucks, it is the package that the company gets from the insurance company. Maybe the company is just too cheepo and get the cheapest plan? HaHa
