OMG that is exactly what my DD said.. finally.. people like me. Of coz workload wise can be lesser.. but she absolutely loves the type of friends she has now and also the way the classes are being conducted now, allows her to express herself freely. I asked her if she wants to go back to mainstream for easy life.. she said absolutely not.

There are 2 ends to the scale when it comes to special needs children, special needs are commonly associated with Intellectually disabled person but at the other end of the scale is actually the GEP children. Our GEP children need special help too because they are just not \"mainstream normal people\". We parents do not get to choose which type of children we get, but whatever we choose has to be DEVELOPMENTALLY SUITABLE for them. My personal observation, mainstream parent's challenge is usually their children's cognitive abilities, GEP parents is usually towards social emotion.

Wow.. how time flies.. is that time of the year again.


Don't stress the child and do not train for it.. as you can see from attached.. those born with it only requires to learn 1 - 2 times for mastery. How can you train that? We normal ppl need 6 to 8 times.

I am not sure what's your stand in this.. But I am quite certain if your child has an edge over mine and mine over yours.. we won't lose sleep over it because we do not know each other. I was still thinking about the father during the Q&A session..twins 1 got in and one did not.. If I am that father... would I still want my GEP child to have an edge over the other twin simply by having a GEP status... I thought the GEP team was wise in their answer, reminding parents to take into consideration of the sibling who did not get in.

After the \"psycho\" talk, I am less inclined to enrol my child in the programme than I was yesterday...

I thought they were too frank in answering from the 3 points raised in the QnA, if I recall correctly as follow :

1) If you want your kids to do very well in PSLE and A/O levels, do not join the programme. Is it not what the programme is.

2) Your child cannot cope only if he was prep from say 95% which will not be selected to 99% which will then be selected. In that scenario, his natural ability will not get him through.

3) DSA - your child should get through DSA in their own skin! Not through the gep programme.

Jenao, you are every interesting.. haha. irabbit is right.. I feel GEP team is not giving a sales talk, they are seeking parents' partnership in supporting our kids. If a salesman wants to sell me something, he might not reveal the \"cons\" about the product but if I am getting into partnership (business) I know I want the truth nothing but the truth upfront to make an informed decision.

1) Everyone think differently, so some feel academic scores are very important while other don't. I asked myself this question now as an adult... whch is really helping me in real life? Problem solving, critical thinking, reasoning and creative skills or my nicely framed on the wall \"perfect\" PSLE/ O level cert?

3) I spoke to 8 students, I asked them about their DSA. My conclusion is this.. GEP taught them the skill to catch fish, how well they do later in catching fish really depends on themselves. With all the training that GEP students received, that alone is the edge that the mainstream students did not get.

I asked him how his briefing went (without telling him what happened in the hall). He said \"They played us a video and performed a skit - they really think we're little kids, huh?\" I asked if he asked any questions, he said no, after the FAQ that the GEB lady went through, there wasn't anymore time for questions.

Perhaps our expectations were too high, but we were expecting a more compelling \"psycho\" session, I guess. Everything that was said was already provided in the written material... or this forum. Maybe kiasuparents is too good

My DD told me they were asked to to questionnaires. In the parents briefing, the GEP team mentioned that they keep record of GEP students, those who were selected and turn down the program etc.. How they know group A do better than group B, group B better than C. GEP team is smart to collect this information in the absence of parents.

Rosyth is our first choice based on distance. We are staying at Yishun. Our plan is public transport. MRT to AMK then bus 73. Think should cost us less than $50 a month.
